Our younger campers were emerged in experiments highlighting environmental engineering today. After getting to explore concepts like capillary action, solubility, and density, campers were able to try their hand at creating various oil removal devices in order to protect a wildlife habitat. This is how we !

After experimenting with the designs of their custom plows to grow and harvest crops, it was time for our older campers to learn more about how engineers impact the food industry. From upscaling the production of recipes to mass produce food items and automate food line production to creating specialized packaging and maintaining automation, campers had the chance to try out all kinds of innovative ideas. This culminated in campers getting to make their own custom packaging to protect their food item before working to transport it from the assembly line to the loading dock on our factory floor. Utilizing pseudocode as a way to structure their efforts to navigate the factory floor, campers were able to make great strides in streamlining their efforts prior to the end of today’s camp. We can’t wait to see where our discoveries land us tomorrow!

Day 2 of Torbotics STEM Camp had our youngest campers diving into the world of Computer Science! From creating secret LEGO codes and building pseudocode chains to mastering If-Then logic and becoming part of a human sorting network, our campers discovered that coding is about much more than computers, it’s about problem-solving, communication, and creativity. Who knew algorithms could be this much fun?

The second day of camp for our older campers was full of engineering discoveries involving agriscience! Campers had the chance to learn more about the many innovations in this field before trying their hand at some of their own. Following testing of their prosthetic hands, students experimented with several iterations of their own water filtration systems. After learning some about traction and drag, students got to business creating their own LEGO plows to test their hand at tilling our grain field to create rows for planting seeds. We”re looking for more discoveries with another engineering field in the morning!

What does the day in a life of a biomedical engineer look like? Our campers found out first hand today! They stepped into the lab and absolutely smashed challenges in germ identification, DNA extraction, organ identification, and sutures training. They’re not just learning about it, they are practicing the same hands on skills used to create life-saving medical tech! This is how we !

To launch our June Summer STEM Camp, our campers stepped into the shoes of biomedical engineers to explore how science and technology save lives. From designing custom prosthetic hands to meet the specific needs of a patient to learning how to do DNA extraction, these future innovators were on point today with no limit to the imagination. We can’t wait to see where the rest of the week takes us.
