Happy Earth Day!
The Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society, in coordination with the Gary Parks Department, will be hosting a beach clean-up at Marquette Park Beach in Gary, Indiana, on April 25, 2021, from 8-11 am. Participants will meet at the Lake Street Beach parking lot (860 N Lake St, Gary, IN 46403).
The purpose of the clean-up is to raise beach awareness and promote the importance of clean habitat for wildlife (including shorebirds); highlighting the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and the shorebirds with whom we share the beaches.
Please join the effort to enhance our community! We will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing to ensure everyone’s safety. If you have any questions, please contact Sammi King at [email protected].

Join us next Saturday afternoon for a guided hike.
Live Healthy, Discover Nature! Hike - Forest Preserves of Cook County Venture out on our scenic trails for a 3 to 4-mile hike lead by our nature education staff. All participants are required to wear masks and practice
Thinking of forming a kids' naturalist group. Would anyone be interested?
This Saturday 3/27 we will meet by the front entrance to the Sand Ridge nature center building at 10am. Please remember to wear a mask and bring your own water. We will take a 1-2 mile walk to learn about the sometimes underappreciated world of moss and lichen that add diversity and splendor to our Forest Preserves!
10am is a little early for a Saturday but if the weather is nice, this sounds like a fun activity for the kids. A scavenger hunt for lichen and moss. You will need to call and register though.
