Local 1019 and Straight A Welding and Fabrication had a great opportunity to attend the reverse job fair located in the Charleston Civic Center. The students had opportunities to hand out resumes and meet with potential employers of the workforce. We are thankful for the invitation and hope to attend next year as well!

Today, Local 1019 had an on the job training day at Duval Middle School. During the day, the students started removing the Kiser-Wilkerson Gym floor for repurposing back in our shop at LCHS. The hardwood removed is currently being re-finished and cleaned up in our shop. There's a lot of history in the Duval building and we were happy to have the chance to work in the building today. Thank you too all involved. We look forward to our next visit!

Meeting with the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades - January 4th, 2023

Local 1019 would like to thank organizer Rodney Skaggs from the IUPAT for visiting the students of 1019 to discuss the opportunities within the painting and finishing trades. Mr. Skaggs explained many things about the union, including the career routes to take within the IUPAT. Their training center is located in Weston, West Virginia. The IUPAT offers training within the trades of Commercial Painting, Industrial Painting, Drywall, Glaziers, and HydroBlaster/Vacuum Technician. We look forward to working hand in hand with the IUPAT in the future! Meeting with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America - August 31st, 2022

Local 1019 would like to thank coordinators Everett Johnson and Gary McCallister for visiting the students of Local 1019 to explain and offer fulfilling careers in the carpentry trade. Their training center is located in Parkersburg, West Virginia. We work very closely with the members of the carpenter's union and look forward to keeping the close relationship with the union. Local 1019 would like to thank the Insulators Local 80 for inviting us to visit their Joint Apprenticeship Training Center today! The students spent the day learning the basics of the trade and the practical math involved in the day to day work of the insulators. This also included mechanical drawing. The students of 1019 was able to tour the shop and get a hands on experience in insulation work. A special thanks to Todd Motz, the apprenticeship coordinator for Local 80, for working hand in hand with our program and our school. We appreciate the opportunity given to us today and are looking forward to returning in the future!
