St. John Lutheran Academy

St. John Lutheran Academy St. John Lutheran Preschool is a part of the ministry of St. John Lutheran Church. Every child is a precious unique gift from God.

The goal of our early childhood curriculum is to partner with parents to help each child reach their full potential spiritually, academically, and physically; as well as help them to develop emotionally, socially, and creatively – in a Christ-centered environment from a Lutheran prospective.

We had our first Chapel of the year on Wednesday and y’all… we were collectively PUMPED. ❤️

We filled up more rows of pews than ever before, and seeing all those kiddos together singing, praying, hearing God’s Word...it just felt ooey gooey good down in my bones!

Is there a better day at SJLA?! ⛪️❤️

Monday was FOUNDATION DAY! 🔨🪨

We kicked off our theme for the year, Built on the Rock, with a bash!

At morning assembly we talked about the parable of the wise man who built his house on the rock and the foolish man who built his house on the sand. And here at SJLA, we are built on the Rock of JESUS. ❤️

But we also talked about how we’re building something here at school every single day. Our teachers pray and plan and prepare. We do our best to give our kiddos the blueprint and the tools, but then we put the hammer in their capable hands.

How they show up, how they speak to each other, how they treat their friends, how hard they work, what they do when something is hard, and how they show up when they make a mistake...they’re building something!

Teachers continued the conversation in their classrooms where we could dig a little deeper and talk about what each of us wants to build within ourselves and here at school this year and what it looks like to build our lives on Jesus.

And because you can’t have Foundation Day without actually BUILDING something, every class had a building challenge of their own! And obviously we had to finish the day with rock candy!

Such a fun day and a pretty great way to start building our year together! 🔨❤️

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24–25

🎄 Operation Christmas Child was new to our church last year, and we're so excited to do it again this year!

Last year, thanks to the generosity of our church and school families, our students packed 100 shoeboxes filled with gifts and the love of Jesus for children around the world. 💚 We'd love to make an even bigger impact this year!

There are several ways you can help:
🎁 Order items directly from our Amazon wishlist (link below).
💝 Make a monetary donation, and we'll do the shopping for you.
🧵 Join our sewing team! We're making pillowcase dresses for the girls' shoeboxes and would love extra hands as we prepare these special gifts.

Operation Christmas Child calls these shoeboxes "Gospel Opportunities" because each box is delivered alongside the message of the Gospel, giving children the opportunity to hear about the love of Jesus—many for the very first time. Every toothbrush, toy, and notebook becomes part of a much bigger story.

Thank you for helping our St. John family share the love of Christ with children across the globe. We can't wait to see what God does through this year's Operation Christmas Child ministry! ❤️

I listened to a podcast this morning that fired me up enough that I've got to share it with y'all.

It was the Becoming Something Podcast from Harris Creek Church with guest Jon Eckert talking about The Happiness Crisis.
The conversation started by talking about the difference between happiness and joy, and it hit me right between the eyes.
We live in a culture that's obsessed with "do what makes you happy." We spend so much of our time trying to make life easier, smoother, and more comfortable for our kids.

But joy? Joy isn't found without friction. Hello, frustration resistance! 👋

This keeps coming up, and I don't think that's by accident.

The podcast talks about raising what they call "gritty optimists." Kids who can look at a problem, imagine a solution, and keep working toward it. Kids who become more joyful because of what they've overcome, not because they've been protected from every hard thing.

"The depth of the struggle determines the peak of the joy."

Whoo... that'll preach.

As a school, we're talking about this a lot. How do we build capable kids? Kids who can persevere, solve problems, serve others, and trust God when things don't go the way they planned?

I have a feeling this conversation is only just beginning.
Jon Eckert's new book, The Happiness Crisis, released today, and I already know it's next on my reading list.

Would anyone be interested in doing another book study together this fall like we did with The Anxious Generation a few years ago? Parents, grandparents, educators... anyone who wants to raise joyful, capable kids is welcome!

If you're in, let me know below. I have a feeling this one is going to spark some really good conversations. 💛

Join us this Sunday, August 9, as we celebrate Christian Education Sunday! 📚✝️

If your child is heading back to school this year whether it's preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, or college we'd love for them to bring their backpack for a special Backpack Blessing during worship.

We'll also be praying over the teachers and staff of St. John Lutheran Academy as we prepare to welcome students for another school year. There is no greater gift than beginning the year covered in prayer.

We hope you'll join us as we place this school year in God's hands. 💙🎒

📚✏️ It's wishlist season! 🍎✨

Our teachers have been busy dreaming up classrooms full of great books, hands-on learning, and all the little things that help make school feel like magic.

If you've been looking for a simple way to bless a teacher before the school year begins, we've linked each classroom's Amazon Wishlist in the comments below. 💛

There is absolutely no expectation your encouragement, prayers, and support already mean the world to us. But if you'd like to help stock a classroom, every single item (big or small!) makes a difference.

Thank you for loving our teachers so well. We can't wait to welcome our students back! 🏫📖🍎
