Our first graders are learning all about the changing seasons and the signs that fall is on its way! We read Leaf Trouble and talked about what happens to leaves as the weather changes.

Then we headed outside to find our own leaves! We brought them back to the classroom and used our creativity to turn them into our very own pictures.

Now we’re just hoping those cooler temperatures decide to show up soon! 😂

Today, first grade put our 5 senses to the TEST!

👀 SIGHT: We turned off the lights and used flashlights to see in the dark! 🔦

👂 HEARING: We played Guess That Sound and put those listening ears to work!

👃 SMELL: Vanilla, banana, lemon, and peppermint were put to the sniff test! Some got more excited about certain smells than others!

✋ TOUCH: We felt pasta, shaving cream, Legos, and pom-pom balls. The pasta was definitely the winner for the biggest reactions… apparently mystery pasta is TERRIFYING when you can’t see it! 🤣

👅 TASTE: And of course… EVERYONE’S FAVORITE! Hot Cheetos, sour lemons , M&Ms, and pretzels! Let’s just say the faces after tasting the lemons were PRICELESS!

We had SO much fun getting hands-on (and noses-on… and taste buds-on) while learning all about our 5 amazing senses!

Today in first grade, we read Giraffes Can’t Dance and we talked about three very important letters: Y-E-T!

Sometimes learning something new can feel hard. Sometimes we might think, “I can’t do it.” But we are learning to add one little word: YET!

First grade is all about learning, growing, making mistakes, and never giving up. We may not know how to do something today, but with practice, patience, and perseverance, we can do it!
