CALAS is excited to bring our familia together for our Back-to-School Social this Friday, September 18, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Parkville Market in Hartford!

We extend our sincere appreciation to Benchmark Education Company for their partnership in sponsoring this special event and supporting our mission to connect, empower, and elevate Latino educators and leaders throughout Connecticut. Partnerships like this help strengthen our community and expand opportunities for collaboration and leadership.

✨Honoring Our Heritage. Elevating Our Voices. Inspiring Our Future.✨

Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month — from September 15 through October 15 — a time to honor the rich histories, cultures, contributions, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities.

As President of CALAS—and as a proud Puerto Rican, bilingual educator, and leader—this celebration is deeply personal to me. Our identities, languages, experiences, and stories are sources of strength. They enrich our schools, inspire our students, and strengthen the communities we serve.

Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize the trailblazers who opened doors before us, celebrate those making a difference today, and encourage the next generation of Latino leaders to step forward with pride and purpose.

As we celebrate, I invite each of us to take one meaningful action: mentor an emerging Latino leader, amplify a student’s voice, share your cultural story, recognize someone making a difference, or create an opportunity for someone else to lead.

I also invite educators, leaders, community partners, and friends to join us for the CALAS Welcome Back-to-School Social this Friday, September 18, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Parkville Market in Hartford. Come connect, celebrate, and build community with the CALAS familia!

On behalf of CALAS, I wish you a joyful and meaningful Hispanic Heritage Month.

Dear CALAS Familia,

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. As I begin my term as CALAS President, I am honored and excited to serve alongside our dedicated Board and an inspiring community of educational leaders.

During the year ahead, we will build upon CALAS’s strong foundation by continuing to advance Latino leadership, strengthen professional connections, share effective practices, and advocate for equitable opportunities for every student—especially those whose voices and needs have too often been overlooked.

Whether you are a longtime member or new to our CALAS Familia, your experiences, talents, and participation are essential to our continued growth and impact.

I invite you to join us for our CALAS Back-to-School Social on Friday, September 18, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Parkville Market in Hartford. This free event will be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, welcome new members, and begin the year together. I hope you will join us!
