The "Junior Year Pivot"—Why this is the most critical year in the college process.

If you are just kicking off your junior year, you’ve reached the most pivotal point in your high school journey. Admissions officers look at this year under a microscope because it offers the most recent and consistent snapshot of your academic and extracurricular growth.

Don't let the calendar overwhelm you. Here are the three non-negotiables to put on your radar right now:

1️⃣The Testing Strategy: It’s time to stop guessing. Decide when you will take the SAT/ACT and, crucially, evaluate whether "test-optional" is a strategic advantage or a gap in your application. Let’s make a plan that plays to your strengths, not your anxiety.

2️⃣Quality over Quantity: Stop adding new clubs to your resume. Admissions committees are looking for "spikes"—evidence of deep, sustained engagement. Double down on 1-2 meaningful commitments where you can demonstrate leadership or tangible impact.

3️⃣The Preliminary List: You don't need a final choice, but you do need a starting point. Curate an informal list of 10-15 schools. Research them, visit if you can, and start identifying what actually matters to you in a college experience.
