🐾 HAES Weekly Parent Updates – Week 3

This is Dr. Hill with your weekly updates from HAES! As we head into our third week of school, I have a few important reminders for our Panther families.

🚌 1. Transportation & Car Line

Transportation is still being adjusted, so we continue to ask for your patience and flexibility with afternoon bus arrival times. Our drivers are still learning their routes, and we are adding new students to routes daily. Things are improving, but it does take a little time for everything to settle into a routine.

Please remember that we cannot accept transportation changes over the phone. This is a safety issue because we must be able to verify who is requesting the change. If you need to make a transportation change, please come into the school to complete a bus or car note. If you are new to our school, please be prepared to provide identification.

Our car line is getting MUCH better, but we still have some confusion with the traffic pattern. I cannot reinforce this enough: PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK GILES BYRD ROAD. This is for your safety and the safety of the vehicles behind you.

Please turn down the correct road, travel all the way to the back of the school, make the large circle around the back, and then come back toward the front. Please do not attempt a three-point turn on the dirt road. We have staff stationed in the back to help guide you through the process.

Thank you for helping us make dismissal safer and smoother!

🎁 2. Candyman Fundraiser Begins Tomorrow!

Our first fundraiser of the year begins tomorrow! Students will be bringing home information about our Candyman Fundraiser.

There are lots of great items available, including some wonderful wrapping paper, and all orders will arrive before Christmas!

Please consider supporting our school. We rely heavily on our fundraisers to provide the extra activities and experiences we want to offer our students and families, including events such as our Guardian Gala in the spring. Every order helps us give back to our students, and we greatly appreciate your support!

⏰ 3. Early Dismissal Reminder

Please remember that we do not allow early checkouts after 2:00 p.m.

We also encourage families to avoid checking students out early whenever possible. We teach from bell to bell at HAES, and important instruction continues until the end of the school day.

Frequent tardies and early checkouts add up quickly and can result in students missing a significant amount of valuable instructional time. Every minute matters!

📱 4. ROOMS — Our New Communication Platform

Columbus County Schools is now using ROOMS for school and teacher communication instead of Remind.

Your child's teacher has information available to help you get connected. Please make sure you are connected to ROOMS so you don't miss important classroom announcements, school information, and reminders.

If your phone number changes at any point during the school year, please notify the school as soon as possible so we can update your information in our system. Having accurate contact information is extremely important.

As always, thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and support. We have had a great start to the school year, and we appreciate our families working alongside us to make HAES the best it can be.

Have a wonderful Week 3, Panthers! 🐾

DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 4TH!

The ToothMobile is Coming to Columbus County Schools!

The Columbus County Health Department ToothMobile will be visiting Columbus County Schools throughout the 2026–2027 school year. The ToothMobile is a mobile extension of the Columbus County Health Department Pediatric Dental Clinic, located at 810 Spivey Road in Whiteville.

The goal of the ToothMobile is to help Columbus County students access dental care and establish a dental home — a place where children can receive regular, ongoing dental care in a familiar setting.

Services offered through the ToothMobile include:
• Dental cleanings
• Dental exams
• X-rays
• Sealants
• Fluoride varnish applications

If additional treatment such as fillings, crowns, or extractions is needed, that treatment will be scheduled at the Columbus County Health Department Dental Clinic or with another pediatric dentist.

The dental clinic serves all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Private insurance, government insurance, Medicaid plans, and uninsured patients are accepted.

WHAT PARENTS NEED TO DO:

If you would like your child to be seen by the ToothMobile this school year, complete the ToothMobile Interest Form and return it to your child's school by September 4, 2026.

https://aptg.co/MtcH46

Parents who select “Yes” will receive additional registration paperwork in the weeks before the ToothMobile visits their child's school. Additional paperwork must be completed before your child can receive services.

Please review the attached ToothMobile Information Sheet and Interest Form for complete details and to indicate your interest.

Questions? Contact the Columbus County Health Department Dental Clinic at (910) 640-6615 ext. 7041.

🐾 HAES Week #2 Parent Updates
We had a wonderful first week of school! Thank you to our families for your patience and support as we worked through the normal beginning-of-the-year adjustments. As we begin Week #2, please review these important reminders and upcoming dates.

🍎 Walking Students to Class
Thank you to everyone who walked their child to class on the first day of school. Beginning this week, all students are expected to walk into the school and to their classrooms independently.
Our bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and instruction begins immediately. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are considered tardy, and a parent/guardian will need to come inside to sign them in.
Please help us by having your child at school on time so they can begin their morning feeling relaxed, prepared, and ready to learn!

📝 New Student Enrollment
We are continuing to process new student enrollment applications. If you submit an online application, please allow 48–72 hours for processing.
Submitting an application does not mean your child is immediately cleared to begin school. A member of our staff will contact the parent/guardian once the application has been processed and provide your child's official start date.
All enrollments require:
Two (2) proofs of residence
One (1) parent/guardian photo ID
One (1) certified birth certificate
These documents can be uploaded directly with the online application.

🚌 Transportation
Transportation can be challenging during the first few weeks of school as bus drivers, car riders, students, and families adjust to new routines. Please be patient with one another as we work to make arrival and dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.
Parents, please DO NOT block Giles Byrd Road while waiting for afternoon pickup. Our school is located on a curve, and oncoming traffic may not be able to see stopped vehicles in time. For everyone's safety, parents should turn left down the dirt road and turn around behind the campus rather than stopping on Giles Byrd Road.
Also, for the safety of our students, we do NOT accept transportation changes over the phone. Transportation changes must be submitted in writing through the front office. This allows us to verify that changes are being made by the appropriate parent/guardian and helps ensure every child gets home safely.

⏰ Early Dismissals
We do not allow early checkouts after 2:00 p.m.
We also encourage families to avoid checking students out early whenever possible. We teach from bell to bell at HAES, and important instruction continues until the end of the school day.
Students who are frequently tardy or checked out early can lose a significant amount of valuable instructional time. Every minute matters!

📱 ROOMS — Our New Communication Platform
This year, Columbus County Schools is using ROOMS for school and teacher communication instead of Remind.
Your child's teacher has information available to help you get connected. Please make sure you are connected to ROOMS so you don't miss important classroom and school information.
If your phone number changes at any point during the school year, please notify the school as soon as possible so we can update your information in our system.

❤️ Important Dates to Remember
August 31 — i-Ready Beginning-of-Year Diagnostic Testing Window Opens
September 3 — BOG Testing for ALL 3rd Grade Students
September 7 — No School — Labor Day
September 8 — Candyman Fundraiser Begins

Thank you for helping us have such a successful start to the school year! We appreciate our HAES families and look forward to another great week.

Tomorrow is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 🐾📚 We are so excited to welcome our Panthers back and begin another wonderful year together!

As we prepare for the first day, please review these important reminders:

🍎 Walking Students to Class

For the first day of school only, parents/guardians are welcome to walk their child to the classroom.

We kindly ask that ALL parents/guardians leave the building by 8:15 a.m. so that we can begin our instructional day.

Beginning on the second day, students will walk to class independently with assistance from our staff as needed. Establishing this routine early is very important and helps our students build confidence and independence.

📝 New Student Enrollment

We are continuing to work through enrollment applications. If you submit an online enrollment application, please allow 48–72 hours for processing.

Submitting an application does not mean your child is immediately cleared to begin school. A member of our staff will contact the parent/guardian once the application has been processed and provide your child's official start date.

All enrollments require:

Two (2) proofs of residence
One (1) parent/guardian photo ID
One (1) certified birth certificate

These documents can be uploaded directly with the online application.

🚌 Transportation

Transportation can be challenging during the first few weeks of school. Please make sure your child's teacher clearly knows how your child is expected to go home each day.

For the safety of our students, we do NOT accept transportation changes over the phone. Transportation changes must be made in writing through the front office. This helps us verify that changes are being made by the appropriate parent/guardian and ensures that every child gets home safely.

⏰ Early Dismissals

We do not allow early checkouts after 2:00 p.m.

Dismissal is a very busy time of day. Last-minute changes can create confusion and delay the dismissal process. Most importantly, we want to make sure every student gets to the correct location safely.

📱 ROOMS — Our New Communication Platform

This year, Columbus County Schools is using ROOMS for school and teacher communication instead of Remind.

Your child's teacher has information available to help you get connected to ROOMS. Please make sure you are connected so you do not miss important classroom and school information.

If your phone number changes at any point during the school year, please notify us ASAP so that we can update your information in our system.
