🌶️🍝 SPICY DIABLO PASTA WAS A HIT! NOW IT’S TIME TO CRAVE! 🔥🚀

Yesterday was another exciting “Try It Day” at Halifax County High School as our students had the opportunity to sample Spicy Diablo Pasta! 🌶️🍝

We received lots of positive feedback, and many students really enjoyed the bold flavors! Of course, we had a few who weren’t quite as excited about the vegetables mixed in! 🥒🫑😂 But that’s what our Try It Days are all about — introducing students to new foods, encouraging them to explore different flavors, and hearing their honest opinions!

We are officially gearing up for the CRAVE LAUNCH on Tuesday, October 13!

👨‍🍳 We are especially excited to welcome Chef Dale Green II from El Paso, Texas!

Chef Green will be joining us on Monday, October 12, to provide hands-on training for our cafeteria staff as we prepare to bring this exciting new dining experience to our high school students!

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! Chef Green will also be with us on Tuesday, October 13, for our OFFICIAL CRAVE LAUNCH! 🎉

We are looking forward to learning from Chef Green, introducing exciting new recipes, and bringing even more variety, flavor, and student choice to our cafeteria!

We’re excited to introduce our next special featured recipe for the month of October!

🌟 SHOYU CHICKEN POTSTICKER SOUP WITH CORN 🌟

This delicious, Asian-inspired dish features savory shoyu ramen broth, tender chicken potstickers, sweet corn, and fresh bok choy! 🥬🌽🥟

It’s a fun and flavorful way for our students to explore new tastes while enjoying a warm, comforting meal!

🐄🥭 THE WAIT IS OVER… MEET MANGO! 🥭🐄

Our Discover Dairy “Adopt a Cow” mystery has officially been solved! ❤️

We are so excited to introduce the newest member of our South Boston Early Learning Center cafeteria family — MANGO! 🎉🐮

Mango is a Red & White Holstein heifer who was born on August 15, 2026. At birth, this sweet girl stood 34 inches tall and weighed 80 pounds! She is being cared for by Farmer Savanna Cheesman at Richlands Dairy in Blackstone, Virginia. 🚜🌾

And how cool is this? Richlands Dairy was established in 1750 and has been passed down through 10 generations! That means this Virginia dairy farm has been part of its family’s story for more than 250 years. ❤️

👩‍🌾 Meet Farmer Savanna! She has been farming for 7 years, and her favorite thing to do on the farm is — no surprise — hang out with her cows! 🐄 Her favorite dairy product is chocolate milk, and her favorite ice cream flavor is Coffee Oreo! 🍫🥛🍨

Through the Discover Dairy Adopt a Cow program, our students will get to follow along as Mango grows and learn about her life on the farm, the people who care for her, dairy farming, agriculture, and where the foods we enjoy come from.

What a wonderful way to bring Farm to School Month to life for our youngest learners! 🌱🚜🥛

A BIG welcome to Mango, Farmer Savanna, and the Richlands Dairy family! We can’t wait to follow Mango’s journey this school year. ❤️🐄

Our final CRAVE “Try It Day” is coming THIS THURSDAY at lunchtime, and we’re turning up the heat with Spicy Diablo Pasta! 🍝🔥

This bold new dish features penne pasta tossed in marinara and loaded with Italian sausage, pepperoni, diced chicken, zucchini, onions & peppers, garlic, Italian seasoning, and a kick of crushed red pepper! 🌶️

🍎🌱 FARM TO SCHOOL FUN AT MEADVILLE ELEMENTARY! 🌱🍏

Today we celebrated Farm to School Month with the fifth-grade students at Meadville Elementary, and we had an apple-solutely wonderful time! 🍎❤️

A special thank you to Chelsea Wooding with Farm Bureau for joining us and teaching our students all about apples and where our food comes from! 🚜🌳

Students participated in a fun, hands-on project that followed the journey of an apple from a tiny seed 🌱… to the orchard 🌳… through harvesting 🚜… and all the way to its arrival in our school cafeterias! 🍎🏫🍽️

We also had an apple sampling in which the students were able to taste 4 varieties and pick their favorites.

It was such a great way for our students to see that the food on their cafeteria trays has a story — and that farmers and agriculture play an important role in bringing fresh, nutritious foods to our schools.

We love opportunities that connect the farm, the classroom, and the cafeteria! ❤️

A huge thank you to Chelsea for helping make today educational, interactive, and FUN for our fifth graders!
