🌎🏆 SCPA GOES GLOBAL: MR. REX RECEIVES THE 2026 CAROL TRESOLINI AWARD!

Another proud moment for the Trojan family! 💙💛

Congratulations to Mr. Rex, our Exceptional Children (EC) teacher, for receiving the prestigious 2026 Carol Tresolini Award from UNC-Chapel Hill World View during the 2026 K-12 Global Education Symposium held on October 8, 2026, in Chapel Hill, NC!

Presented annually to a North Carolina educator who has made significant contributions to global education in their community, this award recognizes Mr. Rex's dedication to bringing global perspectives into classrooms and empowering students through innovative, student-led initiatives such as Trojan Pulse.

Making the moment even more special, Mr. Rex had the opportunity to meet Carol Tresolini herself, a former special education teacher who later served as UNC-Chapel Hill's Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives. SCPA's principal and fellow Halifax County Schools educators were also present to celebrate this milestone!

And the global journey continues! 🚀 Mr. Rex is returning for his third year in UNC World View's Teacher-Student Initiative (TSI) and second year in the TSI Extended Project, this time collaborating with fellow SCPA teachers on a school-wide global education project!

From our classrooms in rural Northeastern North Carolina to the global stage, our Trojans continue to prove that learning has no boundaries! 🌍

SCPA and NCTA Go Global!
Taking Halifax County to the world, one classroom at a time! 🌍

Mr. Perry, alongside six teachers from Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy (SCPA) and three teachers from Northwest Collegiate & Technical Academy (NCTA), attended UNC-Chapel Hill World View’s K–12 Global Education Symposium on October 8, 2026, in Chapel Hill, NC!

Throughout the symposium, our educators learned from UNC experts, fellow educators across North Carolina, and the Chief Deputy Secretary of the NC Department of Commerce, exploring global challenges, innovative teaching strategies, and ways to bring global education into our schools and classrooms.

🎉 And the celebration doesn't stop there! Six SCPA teachers (Ms. Balmediano, Ms. Eguna, Ms. Samuels, Mr. Rex, Mr. Cummings, and Mr. Osorio) and NCTA's Ms. Jacintos were also selected for the 2026–2027 Teacher-Student Initiative (TSI), a year-long professional development program connecting educators across North Carolina! Even more exciting, these educators were also selected for the TSI Extended Project, where they will work alongside students to develop innovative solutions to real-world school and community challenges!

👏 Congratulations to our amazing educators for continuing to push boundaries, inspire students, and bring the world into our classrooms!

Four years ago, Coach Perry stepped into the role of Varsity Volleyball Coach with little to no experience in the sport. Through determination, discipline, hard work, and a willingness to learn, she turned challenges into accomplishments!

Today, her dedication has helped lead the team to become #1 Co-Champions, while earning her the honor of Coach of the Year for TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS! 🏆👏 Congratulations Coach Perry!

🍽️ A Big Shout-Out to Our Culinary Arts Students! 👏

Our Lighthouse Café SBE had another wonderful opportunity to cater for our principals, preparing 40 lunches—20 chicken salads with assorted dressings and 20 chicken Alfredo pasta salads. From planning to preparation, our students stepped up, worked together, and got the job done. A special thank you to Mr. Cummings for guiding and supporting our students throughout the process.

We are so proud of their teamwork, dedication, professionalism, and growing culinary skills! 👏👨‍🍳👩‍🍳 Job well done, Culinary Arts! 💚💛

A special thank you to Ms. Elizabeth Wood from UNC-Chapel Hill for visiting Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy and speaking with our seniors and a few of our juniors! Our students enjoyed learning more about campus life, opportunities, and the Tar Heel experience.

We also appreciate Mr. Johnson for coordinating this wonderful opportunity and helping our students explore their college options and envision their next steps.
