Very Sad News - On Friday, January 31, 2020, Susan Elizabeth Gencarelli of Ellicott City, MD. Beloved wife of the late Jack Gencarelli. Loving mother of Chris Gencarelli and wife Ashley. Cherished sister of Peter Emmerich and wife Karen, Linda Emmerich and husband John, and Lisa Emmerich and husband Paul. Devoted grandmother of Zoey Lynn Susan. Caring aunt of Sean Allen, Doug Allen, Jillian Emmerich, Amelia Grabowski, Lizzie Grabowski, Kate Grabowski, and David Friedlander and wife Claire. Susan is survived by other beloved family members Cindy and Dave Wagner, Judy and Larry Yolken, Dick and Muriel Schnieder, and Mona and the late George Sheperty.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, MD 21075 on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5 pm to 7 pm. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11 am with interment to follow at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore, MD.

Wishing best of luck to the Maryland International School STEM Academy who is in their first year in the Norbel building. Their vision is a school for children ages 2-high school by 2020, adding middle and high school grades the next few years. Some photos from their open house today.

More on the challenges being faced by School for Tomorrow and in the comments is the link for a go fund me page put together by the school in an attempt to raise scholarship money for students who need it to stay at the school.

Per the article, parents this past summer have "been too busy trying to save the school to look at other options" a sentiment that many Compass parents can relate to and some former members of our Compass/Norbel family are now part of SFT some going though this for the third time.

Apparently opening in the fall is not certain per a parent who has stepped up to chair the board the school is "now in need of only 4 additional students at either campus to be able to move forward. ... SFT is a school that stumbled, but has a community of close to 40 parents and faculty that want it to continue and flourish."

School for Tomorrow needs more students, more money in order keep operating in Reston and in Silver Spring, Md.

Wishing the parents at SFT all the best - sounds like they are working miracles for their kids to keep SFT funded and the doors open! Sounds like they are on a good path with a new head of the board of directors who wants "Transparency is critical, Forsen said. If the school moves forward, he said he would like to see bylaws changed so that quarterly financial reports are required."

The private School for Tomorrow is struggling, but parents and students are fighting to keep it open for next school year.

Dr. Vincent Culotta, author and president of NeuroBehavioral Associates, will host a presentation titled “Social Media and Video Games: A Brain Perspective” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug 25, at Wye River Upper School in Centreville Culotta will explore the impact of social media and video games on children and teens from a neuroscience perspective. He also will examine the use of networking sites, texting, sexting and safety, as well as discuss the relationship of video game use to real-life violence and the impact of gaming on children with ADHD.
