We obtain new knowledge about Hawaiian culture and sustainable practices every year by visiting our neighbors Na Mea Kupono Learning Center. Spreading Aloha both in and out of the classroom is part of our philosophy at Little Groms and field trips like these really give our Groms a chance to learn about giving back and taking care of the land. Our Knobbed Cylinders teach visual discrimination of size. A reason I love this activity is that it allows for easy self-correction, like most Montessori materials. It will be obvious if the cylinder is in the “wrong” spot.

This gluing activity may seem simple but it helps our Groms develop fine-motor control, concentration, and hand-eye coordination. Our 3 & 4 year olds even take it upon themselves to create patterns with the shapes!
