COVID-19 Update: I have been able to continue working with my clients by email, text and phone. Many have used my private access Google site as well. For new clients with high school juniors looking for the right schools, I would still like the face-to-face family meeting, but hope to start those when the shelter in place is over. I will reserve places for students now for when things get back to normal. In the meantime, stay safe everyone!

FIVE REASONS TO CONSIDER WILKINSON COLLEGE PLANNING, LLC:
1. High school counselors often have hundreds of students, limiting their time for each. I will only work with 12 families at a time. I still have a few openings for upcoming seniors, so call or email now!
2. High school counselors deal with many areas beyond college counseling: child study team meetings, students who feel bullied, student/teacher disputes, inservices, duty periods, etc. All of my time is spent helping families with college planning and applications.
3. High school counselors are usually only available during the school day, or right after school. I meet with families and students in the privacy of their own home, at times convenient for them; usually evenings or weekends. There is no need to take off from work!
4. Parents have told me that other college planners in the area charge from $2800 to $3500. I believe that college planning assistance should be available to all families, not just the wealthy. My current fee for the 2019-2020 school year is just $400. This includes: a meeting with the student and the parent to discuss the student's goals, tentative college plans and major, academic progress, and school and community involvement. For follow-up sessions, I prepare a list of recommended schools for the student's major, admission requirements, financial aid generosity, and other information. Families get a copy of my book, "Your Family's Ultimate Guide to College" and access to my private Googlesite. I help the student with applications and edit application essays.
5. Other services are available for my clients. For $125 I help families prepare for and file the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA), saving hours of time.

March 2019 - The recent news stories concerning fraud and bribery in the college application process should be concerning to all of us. A company that pays SAT proctors to change answers and college coaches to lie about applicants can put legitimate companies, that help students and parents find the right college, in an undeserved bad light. When I retired after 47 years from Holy Cross in 2018, I set out to help students, as I had done for 44 years as a counselor, find the colleges that were the best fit for their major, their academic background, and their pocketbook. Last fall I started with seniors from several schools, and now it's time for high school juniors to begin their quest.

In contrast to the current newsmakers, Wilkinson College Planning, LLC can do the following for students:
* Help them find the right major;
*Show them the most highly recommended colleges for their major;
*Show which of those schools are a good fit for them academically;
*Provide information on schools that are generous with financial aid;
*Help students with applications;

December! Some of my students have started to hear back from the colleges where they applied. Congratulations! Juniors are getting back their PSATs and can see the areas on which to concentrate for the SATs. We are starting to look at majors and career directions. Have a great Holiday!

College Counseling Service: For local students, the first meeting will take place in your home, with both the student and the parent, to discuss the student's goals, tentative college plans, tentative college major, academic progress, school and community involvement.

At a follow up meeting, I will provide a list of schools, including "reach schools", "good fit schools", and "safety net schools" that the family should consider. I will assist the student in completing the Common Application and other applications. The family will receive a copy of my book, "Your Family's Ultimate Guide to College" and access to my Google Site. I will be available through the college application process as questions arise.

Other Services Available: Application Essay Editing; Career Interest Inventory; Financial Aid Information and Assistance; Stress Management and Relaxation Training.
