Eastside Elementary Eagles Marching Band

Eastside Elemetary Eagles Marching Band is a self-supporting after school program staffed by volunteers.

It has performed in parades all over Florida and has earned 19 trophies and ribbons. Our band consists of a drumline, dancers and colorguard. We add an honor guard depending on the parade and situation. Our goal is to provide the students with a means of artistacally expressing themselves while interacting with the community while learning responsibility and gaining self confidence. Performances are almost always linked to additional educational experiences.

It's time for recognition of the hard work that Eastside students did in the only elementary school marching band in the state. It was started by Betty White and marched in local parades in Polk County. They also marched in the Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Later, principal, Sharon Hartwig, gave permission for director Sid Meyer to take the Band to Tallahassee for the Springtime Tallahassee Parade. Ultimately, the program grew to the point that the band marched in parades all over the state at distances that required overnight stays. This could not have occurred without the hard work of fundraising and the support of parents who chaperoned these events. Those were busy times as the band participated in 10-13 events each year. The students worked hard at band practice, earned 21 trophies and ribbons in competition and had the opportunity to engage in many educational events which were included in the band trips.
