We have exciting news to share!
Over the years, our work has evolved—and so has our name. After a decade of serving southern Idaho under the name Sun Valley Institute for Resilience (SVIR), we are proud to announce our new identity: Future Roots. Welcome to our new account!
Future Roots is deeply rooted in the legacy of community-driven resilience and local food system innovation built by the Sun Valley Institute for Resilience and Local Food Alliance. This rebrand marks the next chapter in our work to transform Idaho’s food system and strengthen community resilience.

At its core, Future Roots transforms southern Idaho’s food system by connecting people to local food, supporting regional producers, and fostering vibrant, resilient communities.
Whether you're a farmer, food business, or simply a lover of fresh, local ingredients, there's a place for everyone in this journey.
While the name and look have changed, our commitment to bold, local action remains as strong as ever.
This year, we’re increasing our presence at the farmers' markets throughout the summer. We're in conversation with the Blaine County School District to support and strengthen their farm-to-school efforts. To deepen community engagement, we’re planting the seeds for more farm tours, a book club, and an annual fall event centered on bulk buying. We'll also continue publishing our annual Locally Grown Guide, expand our school cafeteria composting programs, support food businesses through funding, and offer value chain coordination services. In addition, we’ll remain active participants in collaborations at the local, regional, and national levels to further our mission. Keep following us here for the latest from Future Roots.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your commitment to local food makes lasting impact possible. Let’s keep growing—together.
As we step into our second decade as Future Roots, I invite you to explore the new Future Roots at futurerooots.org and keep following us right here. Your support and partnership make everything we do possible.

We are thankful for all of you who have supported our organization and the regional food system in 2024. Purchasing locally grown food, dining at a local restaurant, planting a garden, composting your food waste, and providing your time and resources are all powerful ways to build a thriving regional food system here in the Wood River Valley. Thank you for every action and for sharing this vision with us!

Today, Idaho still exports 90% of its crops and imports 90% of its food. This needs to change, and the Sun Valley Institute for Resilience is leading the charge. Our programs are designed to create a regional food system that strengthens our local economy and makes fresh, seasonal food more accessible to everyone. Our goal is ambitious: more production, processing, distribution, retail stores, and restaurants focused on local food.
This Giving Tuesday, jumpstart our regional food system with a gift to Sun Valley Institute for Resilience and the other powerful food-based organizations in your community.

A profound impact of strong local agricultural systems is the ability to know and express gratitude towards your neighbors who produce the incredible food on your plate!
Thank you to all those who grow, savor, and celebrate local food, and practice resilient land stewardship in our valley and beyond. We are grateful for you!
