Reflecting on what was built here✨ Every stalk of bamboo cut, every board painted, every hand that helped lay the path. Nature reminded us of her power, but she also reminded us of our own capacity to adapt.

As the Hopi say, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” We are our own rescuers.

Next Friday, we begin again with a new design and fresh energy. Building isn’t just about the final structure; it’s about the resilience forged along the way. Ready for the next layer. 🌿🪵✨

Farm Day Part 2: Fruit Preservation in Action! 🥭✨

Our Emerging Leaders Entrepreneurship & Farming Training cohort spent the day taking food sovereignty into our own hands by transforming our jungle farm harvest into nutritious, shelf-stable fruit leather!

We blended up mango, soursop, sweet apple bananas & lilikoi (with seeds for a crunch)! 🧡

🌱 In this reel:

•The satisfying peel of the finished tropical fruit leather!

From chainsaws on demo day to jackhammers & hand-bound bamboo logs, every inch of this bridge was built with love, grit, and determination. 🌧️ While the flash flooding from Hurricane Lala took the physical bridge, it didn’t wash away our spirit or our commitment to this land.

ANOTHER BRIDGE DOWN THE RIVER: Rebuilding for Resilience 🌊🪵

For nearly five years, we’ve been waiting on a building permit for our FEMA-supported “Emergency Bridge.” While we wait for that official green light, our community has kept moving forward thanks to temporary bamboo footbridges we built ourselves.

Just last week, Carl and an incredible, dedicated crew finished rebuilding our footbridge—his finest work across four different rebuilds. But heartbreakers happen: last night’s severe storm swept it away.

How You Can Help Us Rebuild:

We are determined to create a safer, taller crossing and restore critical community infrastructure, including our water line and access route. To do this right, we are launching a $10,000 fundraiser. We will need to anchor much deeper into the native bamboo clumps to find the best poles and give this next bridge a lasting foundation..
