When preparing an infant for family childcare, it’s important for families to have realistic expectations about what care looks like in a group setting. 💛
Infants will be held, comforted, fed, changed, talked to, played with and given plenty of love and attention. However, because a family childcare provider is caring for multiple children, one baby cannot be held all day or as often as they may be held at home.
Parents can help prepare their baby by practicing short separations, encouraging safe and supervised floor play, allowing another trusted adult to offer bottles and helping their baby become comfortable being soothed in different ways.
This does not mean babies are ignored or left without comfort. Their needs will still be met while they are also given opportunities to explore, play and build age-appropriate independence.
Every baby adjusts differently. Some settle in quickly, while others need more time and that’s completely normal. Patience, consistency and open communication between parents and providers can help make the transition easier for everyone. 🌟💛
