On Monday the cadets completed their Firefighter 2 Combined Evolutions 1 & 2. We would like to extend a big Thank you to the Hagerstown Fire Department for providing the apparatus and allowing the cadets to be the first MFRI class to utilize their new burn building. As you can see in the pictures, the cadets were able to navigate a new structure. Utilizing their skills and how to do a proper 360 followed by initiating command. They were even able to get some tips from the Chiefs of HFD.

Friday and today the cadets participated in helping with the Nation Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The cadets worked hard beside the Frederick Co. Recruit Class. We are blessed to help out with such an amazing tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Chief Ron Siarnicki (Executive Director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and retired Chief of PG County) took time out of his busy day to talk with the cadets.

Our hearts and prayers go out tk everyone affected by the traffic events this morning. Zach was a past Graduate of the program and truly a great Chief/FF.
It is with great sadness that the Hagerstown Fire Department announce the sudden and unexpected death of Fire Apparatus Operator (FAO) Zach Reid earlier today.
Zach was a eight year veteran fire fighter/FAO of the HFD and assigned to E-1 on the B-shift. Zach was a graduate of the Washington County Technical High School Fire-Rescue Cadet program. In addition, Zach has served faithfully with the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Department in various positions since he was a teenager, and is the current chief of the department.
Our sincere, heartfelt sympathies and prayers are extended to the Reid family, the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Department, as well as his friends and colleagues throughout the fire service and Clear Spring community.
Additional details regarding the exact nature of Zach’s passing is not available at this time.
