Over the weekend, our Corporate Team participated in a Strategy Session led by One Step Closer Coaching. Our goal was to increase collaboration and come up with lofty goals for the next two years as a company.

Before we can move forward, we know we needed to take a hard look at our company and the things that we need to improve upon. We have acknowledged and addressed our shortcomings as an organization and are determined to fix them. As a team, we are dedicated to transforming D.M. Bowman Inc. this year and focusing on making our company an employer of choice for our current employees and future ones.

Thank you to Mary Ellen Waltemire for facilitating this discussion and helping us to move forward as a company. And thank you to 28 South, Jay Zuspan and Bianca Cline for hosting our meetings.

Today is 2-12. Sure, that means February 12th. . .

Another perspective?
212 stands for the extra degree.

that at 211 degrees water is hot?
AND at 212 degrees that same water boils?
With boiling water comes steam, AND with steam you can power a train!

Interesting analogy when we choose to apply it to our OWN lives. YOU are responsible for turning up the heat in your life in order to get the results you want - To be One degree better each day. AND to make a positive difference in someone else's life also.

As a leader, what would happen if you spent just a little more time with your managers, listening to and supporting them? What if you took time to thank someone a bit more each day?

Thus, showing your appreciation for the kindness of others over 200 MORE times each year!?!

As a friend, choosing to put your phone away when you're actively engaged one on one will add more than 365 additional friendly and attentive moments to your year!

Think about it. . . How might you give one degree MORE this month? Here's A Challenge for you to consider - Step out of your Comfort Zone once more EVERY week Creating over 50 additional opportunities for excitement and possibilities THIS Year!

Be ONE of the first five individuals to post your EXTRA DEGREE below in the comments, and you could win a Complimentary 30 minute Coaching Session with One Step Closer Coaching.

These next three from Santa will help you flourish as a leader.

1. Those elves sure are lucky to be employed at the North Pole. Not because there is always snow, but because Santa has a productivity plan in place.

He not only coaches his team on How to do their jobs well, He also coaches them on How to be successful too!

Santa further explains that as leaders, we need to help our team members learn, grow and develop All of the skills we want them to perform in their positions.

2. Even a team like Santa's has conflicts during the busiest of times. He notes that the "C.A.L.M. model" works well for resolving conflicts between his elves and remains an important part of their work environment.

CLARIFY the issue, ADDRESS the problem, LISTEN to all sides, MANAGE your way to a resolution.

3. Lastly, Santa reminded me of the importance of pride and professionalism, which he works to provide great examples for each day! His elves are encouraged to take pride in everything they do, including caring about their co-workers, their customers, their jobs and organization.

Most importantly by reinforcing positive relationships the elves understand that each action they take is a reflections of themselves.

As YOU continue in your leadership role, which of these for Success is one you could better implement now?

12/11/2020

Even though he's getting busier, Santa took some time to share 3 more Leadership Strategies as we work to become better leaders each day!

1. One of the tasks that Santa enjoys as a leader, is taking time for recognition of his elves. That recognition and the results.. Good feelings .. are absolutely contagious!
His "Recognition Rules" are: Make it TIMELY, Get SPECIFIC, Be APPRECIATIVE, Get PERSONAL and Make it PROPORTIONAL!

2. Even in years (without a pandemic) "Business as Usual" can be unpredictable! There will always be things that get in the way, Barriers to Success.
In Santa's words, " Problems are Opportunities in disguise" and "Complaining doesn't solve problems, DOING does"!

3. Finally, Santa reminded me of one other important reality... Problems get solved by everyone working together! Every team member has their own unique expertise and talents. Get commitment, use their talents to find solutions And let your team perform as you know they can, as you cheer them on!

Which one of these for Leadership makes the most sense for you to incorporate at your "workshop" as you continue to lead you team

12/04/2020

Just like YOU, Santa Claus is a great leader working to be an extraordinary leader 👌His "Busy Season" peaks significantly in a couple of weeks, so I asked him to share some of his as this year comes to a close... 🎅

1. LISTEN to those elves. They are the ones who know the specific details of the toy making process!

Trusting & Allowing others to be involved in running the business, and in making decisions that affect them, is a KEY leadership strategy!

2. Working with elves has taught me the importance of getting their feedback about ME as a leader and ways I might Improve.

So, I encourage them to "Slip me an anonymous note" 📝about my leadership methods often. And especially in High Stress, High Production times.

3. Finally, walk a bit in their shoes. Although uncomfortable, it's absolutely Necessary! Santa says - Make talking with staff a priority. Meet them where they work, remaining considerate and understanding of the pressures of their job!

Ask what they need, what might make their job easier and then DO the things that are reasonable and appropriate for improving their work environment.

NOW, Which of these in Leadership might make your "workshops" with your "elves" better in the coming weeks and throughout 2021?

The Challenge continues. . .

As part of the month long fundraising effort, I’m asking you to consider leaving a legacy. Like myself, You have probably had a family member or friend who has received the nurturing care of Hospice.

What better way to say "Thank You" than to consider a heartfelt tribute by having the name of a loved one permanently inscribed on an 8" x 8" paver to be placed at Doey's House, Hospice of Washington County?

Doey’s House is the Hospice of Washington County in-patient unit for Washington County; a home-like and supportive setting for hospice patients and their families.

What do coaches and teachers have in common?

Both are competent, trained professionals dedicated to helping their clients and students (of any age) reach their FULL potential.

Both bring a love of what they do to the table each & every day through engaging discussion and conversations.

Both enjoy the partnership that is created through mutual respect and supportive accountability.

Both are Celebrating this week with "National" recognition of their respective professions.

A BIG Thank You to all the teachers in our community who are going above and beyond to continue making a difference for their students. Regardless of age, teaching platform, and temporary situations (some that may just become embraced) as part of our "new norm" future; post pandemic.

Celebrating National Coaching Week May 4-10th

05/05/2020

I'm in your corner...

As a professional & credentialed coach, I work with individuals for transformational experiences through coaching.

May 4-10 is International Coaching Week. In recognition of the coaching profession, why not give coaching a try?

Coaching is more than an intentional conversation; it is an engaging energetic partnership that co-creates possibilities. A coach works with clients to explore options that the individual being coached may not have come up with on their own. Then, the coach continues to support and hold their clients accountable for actions to be taken.

Respond to this post with a one word description of what you believe coaching might be. The first five individuals to respond will receive a 45 minute pro-bono coaching session.

Ready, set, go....

04/21/2020

I was honored this morning to facilitate a virtual discussion with dynamic LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc. Fellows. Our topic of conversation was "Coping with Stress" as leaders.

I ended with a challenge for them to consider. . ."What intentional and purposeful actions can you take now to prepare for your continued and exciting futures?"

Q: Wondering how YOU might respond to this challenge?
Q: What have your recent experiences revealed to you?
Q: How has this slight inconvenience helped you reflect on your priorities, values & next steps?

AND one last question. . . Did you know One Step Closer Coaching is excited to facilitate MORE virtual conversations with you and your team?

Looking forward to connecting with you about future opportunities.

03/18/2020

In these uncertain times, take a few minutes to breathe.

There are many things beyond our control:
the weather, other people, and VIRUSES too!

But, there is so much MORE that we can control:
our feelings, attitude, reactions and responses to others, and ways we choose to use our time.

This is a gentle reminder to positively focus on what we can control - working to stay healthy and supporting each other through these unprecedented times.

02/12/2020

212. . . (otherwise recognized as February 12th - 2/12)

How are you choosing to give a bit more today, this week or this month?

As a leadership coach I can support your efforts to be 212! Contact me and we'll chat about strategies to make a bigger difference in our community by giving just one (additional) degree of effort!
