Nettle Creek
Superintendent Emily Schaeffer said she’s “thrilled” with Hagerstown Elementary School’s 95.6% pass rate.

“Our teachers work very hard to prepare students to perform their best on IREAD. It’s not only our second and third grade teachers, but also our PreK, kindergarten and first grade teachers building the strong foundation,” she said.

The Tigers’ strongest success was in third grade, achieving a 96% pass rate after both the spring and summer assessments. She said summer school and intense intervention after the spring test increased third graders’ pass rate from 84%.

Schaeffer was also pleased with second graders’ progress. Their spring test yielded a 49% pass rate, and with additional spring and summer intervention, it rose to 61%.

Nettle Creek partnered with Every Child Can Read to provide additional after-school tutoring for students identified as needing targeted intervention.

“This partnership allowed us to provide another layer of individualized support beyond the regular school day and continue strengthening students’ foundational reading skills,” she said.

School leaders are recognizing their students and employees for successes on Indiana’s reading test for second and third graders. Keystone Cooperative is proud to announce that Nettle Creek Schools is 1 of 34 school corporations have been selected to receive funding through our Propane with Purpose program, in the amount of $7,500 to help reduce school lunch debt and support food security efforts across rural communities.

The impact starts with Keystone propane customers. Every delivery stop generates a $0.50 contribution toward the program, proving that small actions can create meaningful change for local students and families.

Together, they're helping ensure every child has a seat at the table.

Communities who rally around each other in times of need!

Centerville High School is asking Bulldog Nation and the entire Wayne County community to come together for something much bigger than football.

As we prepare for Friday night's rivalry game between Centerville and Hagerstown, we want to rally around a local family that is facing an unimaginable challenge.

In March 2026, Hagerstown's own Blakely Robinson was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer. Since her diagnosis, Blakely has been courageously undergoing treatment and fighting every day alongside her family.

While the emotional toll of this journey is immense, the financial burden that accompanies ongoing treatments, travel, and missed work can be overwhelming. We would like to support Blakely, her parents David and Alisha Robinson, and her brother Ryker during this difficult time.

Rivalries are part of what makes high school sports special, but compassion, community, and helping those in need are far more important than the final score.

Don’t forget, drop off this morning!

From Monday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Aug. 28, Reid Health will provide free laundry service to Hagerstown residents.

Reid will transport laundry dropped off at Nettle Creek School Corporation's Hunt Transportation Facility; 795 Baker Road. Door 6 in the back!

Volunteers will launder and fold your clothes and return them to the same location.

On each of those days, laundry can be dropped off at:

7:30-8:30 a.m. with pickup at the Hunt Transportation Facility from 1-2 p.m.

Noon-1 p.m. with pickup at the Hunt Transportation Facility from 5-6 p.m.

To ensure a smooth process, please:

When dropping off, place your dirty laundry in designated bags and label it.
Laundry must be picked up the same day.
