🚗 ERH Arrival & Dismissal: Help Us Keep Traffic Moving!

Families,
As we begin the 2026–27 school year, we want to share a few important reminders about morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Our goal is simple: keep students safe, keep traffic moving, and make arrival and dismissal as smooth as possible for everyone.

🌅 Morning Drop-Off
Our parent drop-off window is 7:05–7:20 a.m.
Please help us by:
Pulling all the way forward to the designated drop-off area before your child exits the vehicle.
Having your child ready to exit so the line can continue moving.
Once your child has exited, please leave the drop-off area so the next vehicles can move forward.
If you arrive before 7:05 a.m., your child may exit the vehicle and wait safely on the front porch until 7:05.
Please do not stop or park in the new numbered parking spaces. These spaces are being assigned to staff and must remain available. If a vehicle is blocking an assigned parking space, we will ask the driver to move.

🌅 Afternoon Pick-Up
Our parent pick-up window is 1:45–2:15 p.m.
The same basic rule applies: please pull all the way forward before your child enters your vehicle. This allows us to load multiple vehicles at once and keeps traffic moving.
Please do not enter or use the bus loop for parent pick-up. Keeping the bus loop clear is critical to safely and efficiently dismissing our students.

🐾 We Need Everyone's Help!
A few extra seconds from each vehicle can create significant delays when multiplied by hundreds of cars. When everyone follows the same procedures, students get where they need to be safely and families are able to get in and out of the parking lot much more efficiently.
We know arrival and dismissal can be hectic, and we appreciate your patience, cooperation, and partnership as we work together to make the process better.
Please pull forward. Please keep the parking spaces clear. Please follow the designated traffic patterns. Most importantly, please help us keep our Huskies safe.

Once we receive the updated AM and PM bus routes from the Transportation Department, we will share that information with families as well.

Exciting Things Are Happening at ERH!

We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer! Our faculty and staff are hard at work preparing for another outstanding school year, and we can't wait to welcome our Huskies back to E. Russell Hicks.

In the meantime, we'd like to share a few important dates to help families begin planning.

Incoming 6th Grade WEB Orientation
Thursday, August 20
Time: 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Arrival: Students should arrive at ERH by 7:20 a.m. using their regular daily bus route.*
Departure: Buses will leave ERH at 11:30 a.m.
Students should wear comfortable clothing and shoes as they will participate in activities throughout the morning.
*Bus information will be provided by the WCPS Transportation Department soon.
We are excited to welcome our newest Huskies and help them become familiar with our school, meet staff and WEB Leaders, and begin building relationships before the first day of school.

Welcome Open House
Friday, August 21
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
This event is open to all incoming 6th grade students as well as any student who is new to E. Russell Hicks in grades 7 or 8.
Families are invited to tour the building at their own pace, meet members of our staff, locate classrooms, and become familiar with our school before the year begins. We look forward to welcoming you to the ERH family!

ERH Back-to-School Night
Thursday, September 3
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Join us for an evening of fun, connection, and preparation for a great school year!
• 5:00 p.m. – Food, games, and community activities outside
• 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Families may tour the school, meet teachers and staff, visit classrooms, and connect with local community vendors at their own pace.
We hope you'll join us as we celebrate the beginning of another great year at ERH!

Congratulations to our three ERH Hero Attendance Award winners! These students demonstrated an outstanding commitment to being present, engaged, and ready to learn each day.

At E. Russell Hicks, we know that attendance matters. Every day in school is an opportunity to learn, grow, build relationships, and be part of our school community. We are proud of these students for setting a great example for their peers through their dedication and consistency.

Congratulations to Mrs. Brinegar and Mrs. Orndorff, our May Staff Members of the Month!

We are excited to recognize Mrs. Brinegar and Mrs. Orndorff for the tremendous impact they have on E. Russell Hicks each and every day.

Both consistently go above and beyond to support our students, staff, and school community. This spring, they played a critical role in organizing and coordinating our state testing, helping ensure one of the smoothest and most successful testing seasons we've had. Their attention to detail, organization, teamwork, and willingness to do whatever is needed make them invaluable members of the ERH family.

Thank you, Mrs. Brinegar and Mrs. Orndorff, for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to making ERH a great place for students and staff. We are lucky to have you on our team!
