Our visit to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum was one of the most impactful experiences of the week. Out of respect for the stories being shared and the weight of the experience, we did not take many photos during our visit.

As we moved through the exhibits, Hagerman FFA members were challenged to consider the consequences of the misuse of power. The museum served as a reminder that leadership is not about control, authority, or making others follow. Instead, true leadership is grounded in character, empathy, courage, and the willingness to do what is right when it would be easier to remain silent.

This experience encouraged our members to reflect on the importance of learning from history, valuing the dignity of others, and understanding the responsibility that comes with leadership. The lessons shared here are ones that will stay with us long after we leave Washington, D.C.

Today we visited Arlington National Cemetery and were reminded that leadership is rooted in service, sacrifice, and commitment to something bigger than ourselves. Seeing the rows of headstones and witnessing the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier gave Hagerman FFA members a chance to slow down and reflect.

It was a powerful reminder that the opportunities we have today are possible because of the dedication and sacrifice of those who came before us. This visit left our members with a deeper appreciation for service, responsibility, and the impact individuals can make throughout their lives.

Today we explored the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution with Madison FFA. It was amazing to see the history of flight and space exploration while spending time with fellow Idaho FFA members.

Another great day of learning and making memories in Washington, D.C.!

A great morning visit to the U.S. Capitol! We weren’t able to get our group photo on the Capitol steps because voting was taking place, which meant some areas were temporarily closed to visitors.

It was a good reminder that the Capitol isn’t just a historic landmark. It’s an active workplace where lawmakers meet and vote on issues that impact communities across the country every day.

Even with the change in plans, it was a great opportunity to experience the heart of our nation’s government firsthand with hundreds of other blue jackets from around the country!

Tonight, we had the opportunity to visit many of our nation’s most iconic monuments and memorials, including the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial).

Throughout the evening, students reflected on the leadership, courage, sacrifice, and service represented at each site. These memorials honor individuals who stepped forward to serve their communities and country, often during some of the most challenging moments in our nation’s history.

As part of the Washington Leadership Conference, students are encouraged to think about how they can apply these same principles of leadership and service in their own lives. The lessons learned from the past remind us that every person has the ability to make a positive impact on their school, community, and future.

It was a powerful evening and a memorable way to experience the history and leadership that continue to shape our nation. 🇺🇸

We wrapped up the day with a visit to the White House Visitor Center and a stop to see the White House before checking into our conference. While the White House grounds were fenced off, students still had the opportunity to see this iconic landmark and reflect on its significance in our nation’s history and government.

The Visitor Center was a great place to learn more about the history of the White House, the families who have lived there, and its role in American government. It was the perfect way to round out a day filled with leadership, history, and learning in our nation’s capital.

After our meetings on Capitol Hill, we spent the afternoon exploring the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Students enjoyed seeing dinosaur fossils, wildlife exhibits, and learning more about the natural world around us.

From ecosystems and conservation to the history of life on Earth, the museum offered countless opportunities to learn and explore. It was a great way to continue expanding our knowledge while making the most of our time in Washington, D.C. with Madison FFA!
