Greetings Bishop Eustace Community,

Over the past few weeks, I have written to share our plan for school leadership with a specific focus on the status of our comprehensive search for an Interim Head of School.

Today, I am pleased to announce Dr. Leonard D. Fitts as our Interim Head of School effective Wednesday, January 30, 2019. His selection by the Board of Trustees follows an extensive process that surfaced potential candidates through a professional firm as well as members of our community. The most qualified applicants were chosen for interviews with a panel consisting of myself, an educator from Bishop Eustace, a representative from our parents’ association, and alumni from our community. This multiplicity of input sources was critical to the Board as it worked to make the best decision regarding school leadership. Such broad consultation was important to us as the progressive philosophy of Saint Vincent Pallotti values the power of laity in leadership.

Dr. Fitts joins the Bishop Eustace family as part of an impressive career in educational leadership at the secondary and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as the Interim Superintendent of School for the Pleasantville School District. That post is one of several interim superintendent positions he has held in New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the course of the past 20 years.

Dr. Fitts earned a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and Administration from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance and Administration from Drexel University in addition to being a licensed clinical psychologist. He also holds certifications to serve as a school psychologist, supervisor, principal, administrator, and superintendent among other roles.

His passion for educational leadership and strong business background, make Dr. Fitts the ideal choice for interim Head of School. We have every confidence that his proven record as a leader, collaborator, team builder, and mentor will help us to achieve the results we seek in order to strengthen and sustain Bishop Eustace.

In addition to his professional expertise, Dr. Fitts has been active in a number of commissions, philanthropic organizations, and boards demonstrating his strong desire to contribute to the welfare of the community-at-large. To provide you with a better understanding of his work, here is a brief biography.

In his role as Interim Head of School, Dr. Fitts will report to the Board of Trustees and to me in my role as Chairman. I previously shared a copy of the job description utilized during our search process. Here it is once again to provide a sense of the duties Dr. Fitts will undertake in service to the Bishop Eustace family.

I know many of you are eager to meet our new Interim Head of School. Dr. Fitts will be introduced to the administration, faculty, staff, and students at school this week. Dedicated opportunities will be made available for our parents and alumni to meet him in the coming days. Our plan is to schedule time for such engagements at school during the evening and I will share information with you as soon as possible.

The recent process was a demanding one for all members of our community. I remain grateful for your passion and dedication to Bishop Eustace as well as your patience as we worked to determine the best possible candidate to lead in the interim capacity.

Please join me in extending congratulations and prayerful best wishes to Dr. Fitts as he prepares to assume his duties. I look forward to working with him in support of our mission.

As we move forward, know of my prayers for you and your families and of my deep commitment to every member of the Bishop Eustace Preparatory School community.

Sincerely,

(Signature)

Very Reverend Peter T. Sticco, S.A.C.
Chairman, Bishop Eustace Preparatory School Board of Trustees

Greetings Bishop Eustace Community,

Less than two weeks ago, I wrote to share information regarding a change in leadership at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School. Since that time, some parents have expressed concern about the future of our school. While it is important to hear genuine concern from our school families, there has also been rumor and speculation circulating in some quarters.

I take this opportunity to address our entire community in order to provide factual information about our future and an update regarding our plan for school leadership.

First, I wish to unequivocally state that The Board of Trustees remains committed to providing a private Catholic education to its students following the Pallottine Mission just as it has since the inception of Bishop Eustace in 1954. The school will not be closing and it will not become a charter school.

Since my last communication, the search for an interim Head of School has been progressing rapidly and with great promise. The Board of Trustees made the decision to fill the position on an interim basis to provide for leadership needs at the school with the best candidate in the most expeditious manner possible. It has always been part of our plan to hire a Head of School on a more permanent basis as well. A search for the permanent Head of School will be launched immediately after the interim Head is in place.

The search process undertaken has been an extensive one. In addition to the work of the search firm, suggestions regarding applicants came from several members of the Bishop Eustace community. The progressive philosophy of Saint Vincent Pallotti values the power of laity in leadership. I am grateful to our parents and alumni for your desire to share information about candidates you feel possess appropriate leadership qualities. All resumes received were given due consideration based on qualifications and our stringent criteria.

Based on the pool of applicants, the most qualified were selected to participate in interviews. Recently, the two finalists met with a panel consisting of myself, an educator from Bishop Eustace, a representative from our parents’ association, and alumni from our community. Among those alumni were a Catholic priest and a retired healthcare professional from the Virtua Healthcare System. We assembled the panel in this fashion to ensure a broad array of input and consultation from individuals with unique perspectives deemed critical to guiding our decision.

At this time, I am preparing to share the results of the interview process with the Board of Trustees. That body will make the final hiring decision. An announcement regarding the interim Head of School will be made by the middle of next week.

As you know, the expectation is that this individual will embrace our mission with well-managed accountability and academic excellence grounded in the same Catholic mission and faith that Bishop Eustace was founded upon. Under no circumstances will our core identity and Catholic values be compromised.

In order to provide you with a better understanding regarding the caliber of leadership we are seeking, please click here for the job description used during our search for the interim Head of School. The qualifications presented there mirror what will be expected from the successful candidate for the permanent Head of School following the interim position.

I know you join me in taking pride in the rigorous program of academics, arts, and athletics offered at Bishop Eustace in the charism of Saint Vincent Pallotti.

As we move forward, I encourage the community to come together in prayer and purpose to positively support each other. I remain committed to serving Bishop Eustace Preparatory School students, staff, and community during this transitional period.

Sincerely,

Very Reverend Peter T. Sticco, SAC
Chairman, Bishop Eustace Preparatory School Board of Trustees
