At the September 8th JAS Faculty Meeting Ms. Guzman presented the JAS Sunshine Award to Mr. George Castillo for being there for her when she needs assistance. SInce she received the Sunshine Award last week, there were multiple instances where Mr. Castillo went out of the way to help even when it wasn’t his job. Thank you.

Mrs. Madden presented her Sunshine Award to Mr. Josso. Mrs. Madden stated that since arriving to JAS Mr. Josso has been welcoming, helpful and assisting in many ways. He definitely has made the transition to JAS easier and is definitely an example of JAS Sunshine.

At every Faculty Meeting, Jackson Avenue School Faculty members who have gone out of their way to bring Sunshine to JAS are presented with a Sunshine Award. The Sunshine Award winners are presented with a plush Sunshine Award they proudly display in their class/office. At the next Faculty Meeting they pass the Sunshine Award forward to someone who has gone out of their way to help or assist a JAS Faculty Staff Member in the past two weeks.

Dr. Galiana got us started by presenting the first two JAS Sunshine Awards to Ms. Myrna Guzman and Mrs. Adi Madden.

Ms. Guzman received the award for her dedication to the students, parents and staff at JAS as she diligently prepared JAS for the first day of school throughout the summer. We could not have done it without her.

Dr. Galiana presented the second Sunshine Award to JAS Assistant Principal, Mrs. Madden. Mrs. Madden has been shared between two schools but has managed to make sure schedules are completed, orders have been processed and we were ready for day 1.

Thank you both for your dedication and stay tuned for who gets the next Sunshine Award at Jackson Avenue School.

Thank You, Jackson Avenue Families, Staff, & the Hackensack Community!

A heartfelt thank you to all of our Jackson Avenue families who joined us for our Reimagining Jackson Avenue School Event on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 5:00 pm. Your time, participation, thoughtful ideas, and continued support are truly appreciated. The strong turnout and engagement demonstrated the wonderful sense of community and pride that makes Jackson Avenue School so special.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to our Jackson Avenue Staff and our Shared Assistant Principal, Mrs. Servis, who supported the event by warmly greeting families, sharing important information, answering questions, and helping to make the evening welcoming and productive.

A special thank you to our Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Marks, and the Vice President of the Hackensack Board of Education, Mr. Martin for taking the time to be part of this important conversation and for their continued support of Jackson Avenue School and our students.

As we close the chapter on another incredible school year, we celebrate the laughter, learning, friendships, and memories made along the way. 🌟📚

To our amazing elementary students — thank you for filling our halls with curiosity, creativity, and joy every single day. We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished this year and can’t wait to see all the great things ahead for you! Have a safe, fun, and relaxing summer! ☀️

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated teachers, staff, and support team whose hard work, care, and commitment make our school such a special place for students to learn and grow each day. ❤️

Fourth Graders Plant a White Oak Tree and Grow as Environmental Stewards.

On Thursday, June 18, 2026, Dr. Zimmerman, in partnership with Wild Ones NJ Gateway Chapter, generously donated a White Oak tree to Jackson Avenue School for a special Fourth-Grade Tree Planting Ceremony.

Dr. Zimmerman and Mrs. Gisela Ferrer engaged our fourth-grade students in a meaningful learning experience focused on local ecology, native plants, and environmental stewardship. Through interactive, hands-on activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the important role native trees play in supporting wildlife, improving environmental health, and strengthening our local ecosystem.

The White Oak tree will serve as a living classroom for years to come. As part of this ongoing learning opportunity, each fourth-grade class will measure the tree annually and record its growth. This long-term project will allow students to observe changes over time while developing an appreciation for conservation, sustainability, and their responsibility as environmental stewards.

We are grateful to Dr. Zimmerman and Wild Ones NJ Gateway Chapter for their generosity and commitment to environmental education. This special contribution will leave a lasting legacy for Jackson Avenue School students and inspire future generations to care for and protect the natural world. 🌳💙🧡
