A heartfelt thank you to all of our Jackson Avenue families who joined us for our Reimagining Jackson Avenue School Event on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 5:00 pm. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to our Jackson Avenue Staff and our Shared Assistant Principal, Mrs. Servis, who supported the event by warmly greeting families, sharing important information, answering questions, and helping to make the evening welcoming and productive.
A special thank you to our Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Marks, and the Vice President of the Hackensack Board of Education, Mr. Martin for taking the time to be part of this important conversation and for their continued support of Jackson Avenue School and our students.
Most importantly, thank you to our families for sharing your voices, perspectives, and ideas. Your partnership is essential as we continue to reflect, reimagine, and work together to create the very best educational experience for every Jackson Avenue student.

Fourth Graders Plant a White Oak Tree and Grow as Environmental Stewards.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, Dr. Zimmerman, in partnership with Wild Ones NJ Gateway Chapter, generously donated a White Oak tree to Jackson Avenue School for a special Fourth-Grade Tree Planting Ceremony.
Dr. Zimmerman and Mrs. Gisela Ferrer engaged our fourth-grade students in a meaningful learning experience focused on local ecology, native plants, and environmental stewardship. Through interactive, hands-on activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the important role native trees play in supporting wildlife, improving environmental health, and strengthening our local ecosystem.
The White Oak tree will serve as a living classroom for years to come. As part of this ongoing learning opportunity, each fourth-grade class will measure the tree annually and record its growth. This long-term project will allow students to observe changes over time while developing an appreciation for conservation, sustainability, and their responsibility as environmental stewards.
We are grateful to Dr. Zimmerman and Wild Ones NJ Gateway Chapter for their generosity and commitment to environmental education. This special contribution will leave a lasting legacy for Jackson Avenue School students and inspire future generations to care for and protect the natural world. 🌳💙🧡

As a friendly reminder, JAS has a 12:30 p.m. dismissal today, and today is the last day of school!
More importantly, thank you to all of the JAS families for a wonderful school year. Your support, partnership, and dedication have helped make this year a success. We are grateful for the trust you place in us each day and for the many ways you support your children’s learning and growth. Whether helping with homework, attending school events, volunteering your time, or encouraging your children to do their best, your involvement makes a meaningful difference.
It has been a pleasure working with your children and watching them learn, grow, and achieve so much throughout the year. We appreciate your kindness, encouragement, and commitment to our school community. Together, we have created a positive and supportive environment where our students can thrive.
Please enjoy a wonderful summer! We hope that all students have time to unwind and enjoy nature, the outdoors, and the many wonderful places in our community.
Be sure to stop by the Johnson Public Library, and don’t forget to READ, READ, READ and WRITE about your summer adventures! In addition to keeping up with reading and writing, we encourage students to spend some time reviewing and practicing math skills throughout the summer. A little practice each week can help students feel confident and prepared for a successful start to the new school year in the fall.
We wish all of our 4th graders an amazing experience in 5th grade.
Please stop by and visit JAS in the years ahead—we would love to see you.
Thank you again for being such an important part of the JAS family. We wish you and your loved ones a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer filled with wonderful memories.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall!
Thank you, and have a safe, fun, and enjoyable summer!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Petrin-Wall, Acting Principal and Mr. Collado, Assistant Principal
