“WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER” – is the PEACE CAMP THEME
Conflict is something we experience every day. How we resolve it matters. At the Peace Camp at Gwynedd Friends, campers learn ways to lessen and solve conflicts with friends and family. Our Teachers are peacebuilders ready to share their secrets with your children, who will develop new friendships and play games that emphasize fairness. In our inclusive environment, we are better together.
The 2021 Peace Camp will be held the weeks of August 2-6 and 9-13 from 9:00am to 3:00 pm, for children entering first grade through seventh grade. The Peace Camp for Little Ones, ages 3 to 5, is described on our website www.gwyneddmeeting.org/peacecamp.html.
At Peace Camp your child will enjoy days full of activities focusing on how best to solve problems by creating solutions that help everyone. These skills will follow your camper home, at play with their friends, and back to school. Campers learn how to use these "tools" through cooperative games, free play, art projects, and music, both indoors and out with time also for quiet reflection. A Community Service Project is a focus of camp.
The theme this year is “We Are Better Together”. After Covid-19 restrictions, masked and socially distanced, our children will again be together at Gwynedd Meeting. Care will be taken to keep everyone safe and well.
Our theme lends itself to exploring the uniqueness of each child. Campers will practice "I statements" to more carefully express their emotions and needs to each other, and practice giving positive messages. A take-home flyer summarizes the activities of each day and challenges campers to continue the skills at home with siblings, friends, and parents.
The Peace Camp at Gwynedd Friends is held in spacious, light-filled rooms and on the beautiful, historic grounds of 1101 DeKalb Pike, Gwynedd, PA 19454. The Peace Camp seeks to build a vision of peace and gain a deeper understanding of our own power to create a peaceful world by providing children with the tools they need to understand and deal with conflict.
