Behavioral Health Internship Opportunity

Are you preparing for a career in behavioral health and passionate about supporting children and families? Up to $15,000 in internship funding may be available through the Michigan Behavioral Health Internship Stipend Program (MI-BHISP)!

MI-BHISP supports eligible students completing bachelor’s or graduate-level programs leading to careers as:

• Behavior Analysts
• Marriage & Family Therapists
• Social Workers
• Professional Counselors
• Psychologists

Eligible internships must be completed within Michigan’s public behavioral health system, and recipients commit to seeking employment in Michigan’s behavioral health field after graduation.

Exciting news for the future of healthcare in the Upper Peninsula!

UP AHEC is proud to announce that we have been awarded funding through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Rural Health Transformation Program to support Rural Health Workforce Pipeline and Education Initiatives.

This funding represents an incredible opportunity to expand the work we do every day - connecting students, communities, and healthcare organizations to build a stronger healthcare workforce across the UP.

Through this initiative, UP AHEC will create new opportunities for students to explore, prepare for, and pursue healthcare careers, including:
• Developing new high school healthcare pipeline programs that introduce students to the many career pathways available in healthcare.
• Expanding partnerships with schools and the homeschooling community to reach more students with healthcare career exploration opportunities.
• Strengthening partnerships with healthcare organizations, educators, and community leaders throughout the Upper Peninsula.
• Creating additional hands - on experiences, job shadowing opportunities, and healthcare career development activities for high school students.
• Working toward new opportunities for eligible high school students to earn their Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential, creating a direct pathway into healthcare careers while still in high school.

We believe that building the future healthcare workforce starts by meeting students where they are, providing meaningful experiences, and removing barriers that may prevent them from pursuing a career in healthcare.

By investing in students today, we are helping build a stronger rural healthcare workforce for tomorrow-one that is inspired, trained, and connected to the communities it will serve.

We are excited for the partnerships, programs, and possibilities ahead. The future of rural healthcare starts here.

So excited for our host partner Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center participating in the NMU UP Future Health Leaders Camp this week! Very exciting to see students take an interest in healthcare.

The camp consists of six days of learning about various aspects of health, meeting professionals, exploring simulation labs, visiting a local hospital, and earning CPR certification.
