Jimmy Acevedo Earns Donus D. Roberts Coaching Excellence Award

Guymon High School Speech & Debate Instructor Mr. Jimmy Acevedo has been recognized by the National Speech & Debate Association as a recipient of the Donus D. Roberts Coaching Excellence Award.

The award recognizes the dedication and impact of coaches whose students demonstrate excellence through competition, service, leadership, and other Speech & Debate activities.

Coaches earn one point for every merit point accumulated by their students. Each point represents countless hours of practice, preparation, revision, competition, and personal growth made possible through dedicated coaching and mentorship. Coaches progress through the Association’s membership and recognition milestones alongside their students, ultimately reaching the prestigious 10,000-point level.

Congratulations to Mr. Acevedo on this well-deserved recognition and on his continued commitment to helping Guymon High School students grow as competitors, leaders, and communicators.

🧡🖤 Celebrating Our Amazing Custodians! 🖤🧡

Last week, we had the opportunity to celebrate the incredible group of custodians who keep Guymon High School clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for our students and staff each day! 🧹✨

So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their hard work makes a BIG difference in our school community. From early mornings to long days, they work tirelessly to take care of our building and make GHS a place we can all be proud of.

Thank you for everything you do for our Tigers! 🐯🧡 Your dedication, hard work, and willingness to help do not go unnoticed.

🎄💌 Help Us Send Holiday Cheer to GHS Graduates Serving in the Military! 🇺🇸

The Guymon High School Library is continuing its Christmas card community service project this year, and we would like to make sure our GHS graduates who are currently serving in the military receive a little extra holiday cheer from home!

We are asking our community to help us identify Guymon High School graduates who are currently serving on active duty or in the reserves.

If you know a GHS graduate who is currently serving and would appreciate receiving a Christmas card from Guymon High School, please complete the form below with their current mailing address:

🎨 Arts in Alternative Education Begins at Guymon High School! 🐯

We’re excited to share a new opportunity for students in the Guymon High School Alternative Education program!

Through a community partnership with Artist Incubation, Inc. and the All Fired Up: Gallery and Art Center, students will have the opportunity to work directly with professional artists and receive hands-on instruction in a variety of art mediums.

These weekly sessions will give students a creative space to build confidence, develop new skills, express themselves through art, and earn the Fine Arts credit required for graduation.

“This partnership gives our students meaningful access to the arts and a chance to grow through creative expression,” said Corey Quebedeaux of Guymon Schools Alternative Education.

The program is supported by the Oklahoma Arts Council and will culminate with a public student art exhibition in April-May 2027.

🌟🐯 September Staff Spotlight | Mr. Cox 🐯🌟

For our September Staff Spotlight, we are proud to recognize Mr. Cox from Guymon High School!

Mr. Cox has dedicated 14 years to education and currently serves as the History Department Head, National Honor Society Sponsor, and Generation Citizen leader at GHS. He brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our school, along with a calm and respectful approach that makes a positive impact on both students and staff.

Before beginning his career in education, Mr. Cox proudly served in the United States Navy, bringing that same commitment, dedication, and willingness to serve to his work at Guymon High School.

Mr. Cox is someone who consistently goes above and beyond for our students and school community. Whether he is supporting students through National Honor Society and Generation Citizen, attending athletic events, or enthusiastically participating in our school spirit days, he is always willing to get involved and show his Tiger pride!

Outside of school, Mr. Cox enjoys running and creating art, showing the same creativity and dedication in his personal interests that he brings to GHS each day.

We are grateful to have Mr. Cox as part of the Guymon High School family. His steady leadership, willingness to serve, involvement in our school community, and genuine respect for students and staff make him someone we are very proud to recognize this month.

We are excited to share that Guymon High School Robotics has received funding thanks to the generous support of OERB - The people of Oklahoma Oil & Natural Gas!

This support will help provide our students with valuable hands-on opportunities to learn, create, problem-solve, and grow their skills through robotics. ⚙️💡
