This is scandalous! As an example the New Jersey state average for proficiency in Math is 42%. NBHS is at 7%! North Bergen has had the same mayor for years. He was employed as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Also, a State Senator. Is this the best he could have done? The school is in the crapper!

Hackensack pedestrian dies after being struck by two vehicles

Carol Ventura - NBHS '63

A 76-year-old Hackensack woman was struck and killed by two vehicles while crossing the street in the city Thursday night, police said.
Carol Ventura was crossing the road at Passaic Street and Summit Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a pickup truck, Hackensack police said in a statement. Ventura was then hit by the trailer of a landscaping truck, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old Rochelle Park resident, had a green light and said he did not see Ventura until he hit her, police stated. The driver of the landscaping truck, a 51-year-old Paramus man, also had a green light and said he did not see Ventura. Both drivers remained on the scene.
Police said they do not believe Ventura had a walk signal or the right of way when she crossed.

Obituary for Kenneth Henry Kuhfeldt - N.B.H.S. '63

Kenneth Henry Kuhfeldt, loving husband, caring father, devoted grandfather and loyal friend, passed away on April 30, 2021, in Houston, Texas. He was born on February 14, 1946 in Weehawken, New Jersey to proud parents Kermit and Lillian Kuhfeldt. He grew up in North Bergen, New Jersey where he led a dynamic childhood and had many friends, some of whom he actively kept in touch with until his death. His animated spirit shaped his 30+ year career in photography and allowed him to travel the world. Kenneth cared deeply about his community. During his lifetime, he was the driving force for many projects in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, as well as Houston, Texas. He believed in the power of extracurricular activities to promote family, faith and fellowship. His family will fondly remember his love for life, local sports teams and politics, but more than anything his abundant love for his wife Candyce, of 45 years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rodger, and his son, Christopher. He is survived by his loving wife, Candyce, and his children Heather (Cory) Scruton, Clifford (Brenda) Kuhfeldt & Carrie (Dan) Fetzer. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00AM

For those of us boys who attended Horace Mann School and, simultaneously, were Hudson Dispatch carriers, this notice is for you!

Our manager in those days was a young Rutgers student named Al Petschel. He lived on 86th Street like me, but up between Newkirk and Durham. It was just brought to my attention that his wife, Lorraine, has passed away. I want to extend my condolences on behalf of his Dispatch family. We remember you well, Al and share your grief.

What was memorable for me was how he willingly tutored me on some Saturday mornings with my freshman algebra with which I was having a terrible time.
