Celebrating National Principals Month: Sara Rosheger, Spaulding School Gurnee District 56

This National Principals Month, we’re celebrating the leaders who make a difference in our schools every day! Meet Mrs. Sara Rosheger, principal of Spaulding School. With a background in music, early childhood education, and school leadership, she brings a diverse range of teaching and leadership experiences to the role, including work with preschoolers, elementary students, and a partnership between the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Public Schools.

Looking Ahead: Something Mrs. Rosheger is especially excited about this school year is helping students build strong foundations in reading, math, and cooperative skills as they progress toward the Portrait of a Graduate.

Learning from Students: She has learned that deep learning happens when young children have opportunities to process instruction through play-based experiences.

A Moment That Brings a Smile: Mrs. Rosheger loves seeing teachers and students greet one another, share ideas, participate in community-building activities, and read together during Morning Meetings.

Thank you Mrs. Rosheger for all you do for students, staff & families in D56!

Celebrating National Principals Month: Allison Waller, Prairie Trail School

This National Principals Month, we’re celebrating the leaders who make a difference in our schools every day! Now in the 18th year of an education career, Mrs. Waller has served students as a history and global awareness teacher, Dean of Culture, and Assistant Principal before becoming a principal. With degrees in history, secondary education, and educational leadership, Mrs. Waller brings a wealth of classroom and leadership experience to the role and is excited to begin a third year at Prairie Trail.

Looking Ahead: Something Mrs. Waller is especially excited about this school year is building on Prairie Trail’s Dive Into Reading theme. Inspired by the enthusiasm of staff and students, she looks forward to helping students dive deeper into learning and strengthen their critical thinking skills.

Learning from Students: Mrs. Waller has learned that the little moments often make the biggest impact. A quick hallway conversation, a spontaneous hug, a shared laugh, or simply taking time to listen can mean the world to a child. These everyday interactions are a reminder that the connections educators build matter just as much as the lessons they teach. "And while we hope to make a difference in their lives, they are making just as much of a difference in ours!"

A Moment That Brings a Smile: Mrs. Waller smiles every day when seeing students simply being kids! Their laughter, curiosity, creativity, silly moments, and genuine joy are daily reminders of what makes working in a school so special.

Thank you Mrs. Waller for all you do for students, staff & families in D56!

Celebrating National Principals Month: Dr. Jennifer Glickley, River Trail School

This National Principals Month, we’re celebrating the leaders who make a difference in our schools every day! Meet Dr. Jennifer Glickley, who has served as principal of River Trail/Gurnee Grade School for 20 years and has 25 years of experience in school administration. With a background in special education, elementary teaching, curriculum and instruction, and educational leadership, she brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Looking Ahead: Something Dr. Glickley is especially excited about this school year is exploring Building Thinking Classrooms more deeply and seeing its strategies take hold. She loves walking into classrooms where students explain their thinking, challenge one another’s ideas, and work through problems together rather than immediately looking to the teacher for answers.

Learning from Students: Dr. Glickley has learned that pride in your work matters. When students feel ownership of something, whether it’s a piece of writing, a math solution, a project, or a classroom responsibility, they approach it differently. They put more into it, and they’re much more willing to share what they’ve accomplished.

A Moment That Brings a Smile: Some of Dr. Glickley’s favorite moments happen during classroom walkthroughs when students are so engaged in their learning that they barely notice a visitor. The productive buzz of students talking, thinking, and working through ideas together is a sure sign that they're genuinely thinking rather than just completing an assignment.

Thank you Dr. Glickley for all you do for students, staff & families in D56!

Fourth and fifth-grade students from River Trail School went on a field trip to Village Hall to learn about our local government. They had the opportunity to meet with the mayor and ask questions, as well as learn about the fire, police and public works departments. Thanks to Village of Gurnee for this experience!
