Congratulations to two of our GCS students for taking the top two spots in this year’s 4-H Watermelon Challenge Weigh-In!

GMS student Nick Pierce took home 1st place with an impressive 45.5-pound watermelon, while CES student Cash Hooper earned 2nd place with his 35-pound watermelon!

Way to go, Nick and Cash! We’re proud of the hard work you both put in and the way you represented GCS!

Being at school means another chance to learn something new, ask a question, connect with a teacher, spend time with friends or discover something you love. Those opportunities may seem small in the moment, but day after day, they add up and make a difference!

Guntersville City Schools will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2006 State Championship football team on Friday, September 18, prior to kickoff of the Wildcats’ game against Cherokee County. We look forward to welcoming members of this championship team back to Chorba-Lee Stadium as we recognize them and celebrate 20 years since their historic season.

On Monday, Guntersville City Schools had the opportunity to celebrate Mr. Jeff Mims with a retirement reception honoring his many years of service to our district.

As GCS Maintenance Supervisor, Mr. Mims has played an important role in the growth and improvement of our district’s facilities. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of the new Guntersville High School and the new GHS gymnasium, along with numerous renovations, facility upgrades and projects across our schools.

Beyond the major projects, his work behind the scenes each day helped ensure our students and staff had safe, well-maintained places to learn and work.

We are grateful for Mr. Mims’ hard work, dedication and service to Guntersville City Schools and wish him all the best in his retirement!

At last night’s Guntersville City Schools Board of Education meeting, Austin McCullars was approved as the new Physical Education teacher at Cherokee Elementary School!

Austin comes to Cherokee with 13 years of experience in elementary education. During his career, he has taught third grade reading, fourth grade reading, fourth grade math, and most recently, physical education.

Austin is married to Maura McCullars, a second grade teacher at Guntersville Elementary School. Together, they have three children, Kaylen, Kinley, and Cohen.

“I truly look forward to creating relationships with my colleagues and students, and I cannot wait to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the students at Cherokee Elementary. God placed me here for a reason, and I look forward to seeing what is in store!”

At last night’s Guntersville City Schools Board of Education meeting, Chase Campbell was approved as the new Physical Education teacher at Guntersville Middle School!

Chase is no stranger to Guntersville City Schools, having previously served as a Physical Education teacher at Cherokee Elementary School. He will now make the move to GMS while continuing to serve our students through physical education.

Chase is also a member of the Guntersville High School football coaching staff, where he coaches the offensive line, and he coaches Boys Tennis.

We are excited for Chase to begin this new chapter at Guntersville Middle School!

Last night, The Apple Foundation presented Guntersville City Schools with an incredible $70,141.57!

These funds will provide additional opportunities and resources for our teachers and students across the district.

We are incredibly grateful to The Apple Foundation Board and every contributor who continues to invest in Guntersville City Schools. Thank you for your continued generosity and support of our students, teachers, and schools!
