Learning beyond the classroom!

Our GHS Learning Center students will participate in monthly community-based field trips designed to help them build essential life skills in real-world settings.

Last Friday, they kicked things off with a trip to the movies, where they practiced purchasing tickets, appropriate movie theater behavior, reading menus, making payments and using proper table manners.

We’re excited to see our students continue learning, growing and building confidence in our community throughout the year!

Growth worth celebrating at GHS!

On last March’s ACT, GHS saw 15.4% growth in ELA and 5.8% growth in Math.

Our ELA growth ranked 23rd overall among all schools in Alabama, placing GHS in the top 2% statewide. Among Alabama high schools, GHS ranked 17th in ELA growth, placing us in the top 5% of high schools across the state.

We are proud of the hard work of our students and teachers that continues to move GHS forward. Go Wildcats!

Please join us in welcoming Elizabeth “Libby” Millward to Guntersville High School!

Ms. Millward brings 25 years of experience in education to GHS and is passionate about helping students learn, grow, and reach their full potential. She earned her Master’s degree from Texas A&M University and has spent her career working to create a positive and supportive learning environment for students.

Outside of school, Ms. Millward is the proud mother of two daughters and grandmother to seven grandchildren. She also enjoys serving her community and spending time with her dog, Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. Be sure to check the comments for a photo of Teddy!

Congratulations to rising senior Hunter Holdsambeck and Guntersville High School Head Soccer Coach Zach Ross on representing Guntersville High School at the AHSAA North-South All-Star Soccer Match.

Hunter was selected to compete alongside some of the state’s top soccer players, while Coach Ross was chosen to serve on the North coaching staff. The North and South battled to an exciting 2-2 draw in a showcase of some of Alabama’s best talent.

We’re proud of the way Hunter and Coach Ross represented Guntersville High School and our community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

📢 A Message from Brooke Rutland, RN – Lead School Nurse

As we prepare for an amazing 2026–2027 school year, I want to share some important reminders about medication policies in Guntersville City Schools. These guidelines help keep all students safe and healthy throughout the year:

✅ Prescription Medications
▪️We must have a Parent Prescriber Authorization Form completed and signed by the prescribing physician. This form can be obtained by clicking the link below!

▪️The medication’s prescription label and the form must match exactly.
▪️Parents or guardians must personally bring all prescription medications to the school nurse along with the completed form.
▪️We cannot accept medications without these requirements being met.

✅ Over-the-Counter Medications
▪️These require the same authorization form signed by a physician.
▪️All over-the-counter medication must be in a new, unopened bottle or box.

🚫 Absolutely No Medications in Backpacks
▪️It is against GCS policy for students to bring any type of medication to school on their own.
▪️All medication, prescription or over-the-counter, must be delivered by a parent or guardian to the nurse with proper paperwork. Sending medication in your child’s backpack is not allowed under any circumstances.

If you have questions, please contact your school nurse. Thank you for helping us keep our Wildcats healthy and safe. We’re looking forward to a fantastic year!

As we prepare for the first day of school, now is a great time to make sure your student's meal account is ready for the new year!

Families can use LinqConnect to:
• Add money to meal accounts
• View breakfast and lunch menus
• Apply for Free or Reduced-Price Meals

If you think your family may qualify for Free or Reduced-Price Meals, we encourage you to apply. Even if you're unsure, submitting an application is quick, confidential, and may help reduce your family's meal costs. Families who qualified last year should reapply, as benefits expire on September 19, 2026.
