ESS Faculty and Students Making an Impact Around the World! 🌎⚽️

ESS faculty and students continue to demonstrate their passion and expertise in their professions.
Professor Haneshi and ESS undergraduate and incoming graduate student Natsuki Murakami recently represented ESS and Western Colorado University at the IWG Global Summit on Women and Sport in Birmingham, England.

Natsuki Murakami contributed to a presentation on the importance of mentoring in supporting emerging leaders in women’s sports, representing WomenSport International task force.

Professor Haneshi participated as a panelist in the “What Keeps You Going” session hosted by WomenSport International, where she shared her personal journey and commitment to advocating for girls and women in sports around the world.

Both Professor Haneshi and Natsuki represented ESS and Western with excellence on the global stage. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and their continued leadership in advancing women and girls in sport!

Exciting research in action! 👏
ESS is proud to highlight the work of Prof. Kanae Haneishi and graduate student Masahiro Ito as they complete the first year of their two-year project in Japan. Supported by the Sara Ashworth Scholarship, their study explores how the Spectrum of Teaching Styles can support students’ social and personal development through a social justice lens.
Their work continues to strengthen connections across schools, research, and practice—advancing more inclusive and meaningful physical education. 🌍📚

The Spectrum Institute for Teaching and Learning is pleased to be able to fund the Sara Ashworth Graduate Student Assistantship Scholarship to students and their advising professors as they work on their research, including the use of Spectrum. Apply for this scholarship yourself by July 31st!
