We are thrilled to announce that The National Law Review and Wickard have recognized Stetson Law Professor Kirsten Davis, PhD, as one of the Top 50 Legal Innovators in Academia for 2026.

Early in the emergence of generative AI, Davis encouraged legal educators to examine its broader implications for legal communication and instruction. Her widely discussed essay, "A New Parlor Is Open," sparked conversations among legal writing faculty nationwide by urging the field to explore how AI may reshape the foundations of legal education rather than focusing exclusively on concerns about academic misconduct.

Building on that scholarship, Davis helped pioneer the integration of AI into legal writing education through the development of an innovative course focused on the technology's impact on legal writing. She also established a community of legal educators that has grown to more than 500 members and was recognized with the Legal Writing Institute's 2026 Mary Lawrence Innovation Award.

Following her appointment as Stetson University's Provost's Fellow for Generative AI, Dean Ben Barros recently named Davis the Faculty Director for Stetson's Initiative on AI in Legal Education and the Profession. In this role, she will help shape the law school's approach to AI and emerging technologies. She will also guide the creation of educational opportunities for students, faculty, and legal professionals, helping the Stetson community continue to develop the skills, knowledge, judgment, and ethical framework needed to use AI effectively and responsibly.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Davis on this latest recognition of her leadership and contributions at the intersection of AI and legal education.

August 26 is International Dog Day!

The unconditional love of our canine companions can help us face life's toughest challenges, even law school. Every April, we honor them with our Juris Dog-tor event. At key points throughout each semester, we also invite students to de-stress with therapy dogs between marathon study sessions. Dogs enrich our lives in so many ways, which is why we are proud to be a dog-friendly campus.

Nothing eases those first-week jitters like a cuteness overload.

This week, we had a visit from Rocket, a miniature horse, and his caretaker, Danielle, from Honey's Mini Therapy Horses. From his flowing mane to his shiny shoes, he brought calm and joy to everyone he met. He even had a heart-shaped marking on his coat!

Thanks to Danielle, Honey's Mini Therapy Horses, and, of course, Rocket, for helping our students relax for a moment this week. And thanks to our friends at the Hand Law Library for facilitating events like this for our community.

Over the summer, Stetson's Trial Team spent months balancing jobs and internships with case preparation and practice. Last weekend, all that hard work culminated in Trial Masters, our annual in-house tournament.

This talented group of young advocates delivered impressive performances over four full rounds judged by local attorneys and judges. With our Fall 2026 competition team now set, we can't wait to see what they'll do next!

Join us in congratulating our 2026 Trial Masters champions and recipients of the coveted green Masters jackets: Olivia Glass, Aliza Khandelwal, and Gabe Loofe!
