StandUp2Speak conducts fun and effective seminars & workshops using proven stand up techniques to help individuals and groups improve communications & productivity. For years, Leanna Conley has witnessed the transformative power of standup comedy – a relatively recent communication style and art form that breaks down the 4th wall in acting. Developed from the tradition of the soapbox, standup is a
n honest and inspiring form of communication that has produced some of today’s most effective and most entertaining communicators and speakers – from Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld to Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg. It’s no accident that standup, the art form, is a crowd pleaser and a communication bridge. In Leanna’s experience, improvisation and standup are two of the most effective ways to reach a group and relay a message because they build on feelings of belonging and trust. “When you get in that ‘zone’ – where the creativity and the understanding are so apparent – it’s practically mystical,” says Leanna. “And, undoubtedly powerful. I’ve seen humor break down barriers among people like nothing else can or ever will.”
To help the corporate world take advantage of the power of standup, Leanna has created “Standup to Stand Out: A Corporate Primer,” a series of hour-long seminars. Each seminar covers a unique topic that will help employees connect with their clients and with others in their work environment. Following are some of the topics that will be addressed, through the use of standup techniques:
a) “Sorry, I Wasn’t Listening” – techniques to improve listening skills
b) “Improv to Improve” – techniques to improve presentation skills- the power of "yes And"
c) “I’m Not a Comedian” – how to inspire your employees to be their best
d) “She Says That, but…” – ways to foster trust and better communication
e) “He’s on My Team?” – techniques to build a team
f) “The Voice – With or Without Music” – ways to develop your “voice”
g) “I’m Outta Here!” – ways to ideal with conflict and resolution - how to take criticism
h) “Not Another Diversity Workshop!” – ways to break through barriers of
culture, race, religion, and age
Each fun-filled and energy-producing seminar is designed to stand alone, but they also can be presented as a series. Individual coaching is also available. The major benefit of using standup as the basis for these seminars is that most corporate difficulties are related to the presentation or communication skills of employees. In contrast, when employees develop the skills to communicate needs, problems, and solutions – and have the confidence and ability to do so effectively – the employees, the business and the employer will thrive.
