It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of ECC CJ graduate, class of 2020, Lyrica Rispress. Lyrica was an extraordinary young woman that was laser focused on the goals that she had set for herself at a very young age. She actually created a written plan for herself in the seventh grade. And in my Seventeen years as an educator and twenty-five years as a member of the armed forces, Lyrica was and continues to be the bench mark for determination and perseverance as it relates to fulfilling one’s dreams. While at ECC she set herself apart from her peers by her high level of focus in all of her academic studies to include the CJ program. As part of that growth and goal setting, Lyrica joined the Ohio Air National Guard in the summer of 2019 (between her junior and senior year), she served as an Admin Airman in the Mission Support Group at the 121ARW in Columbus, Ohio until early 2023. At that time she moved to the Ohio Army National Guard in an Army Officer Commissioning Program at Bowling Green State University where she was enrolled in the Criminal Justice undergrad program. Lyrica recently graduated with honors from BGSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and was simultaneously commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the OARNG, 135th Military Police Company in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her ultimate goal was to be a civilian Police Officer. Her parents are understandably beyond devastated. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to bury Lyrica in the next few days.

Always an honor to present high school diplomas to my ECC CJ graduates at my alma mater, Hamilton Twp. This year it was three exceptional kids; Tierra Wooden (active duty US Army), Liam Dean (college bound), and Devan VanLangen (active duty US Navy). So proud of all three of these kids!!!

Could not be more proud of the SEVENTEEN ECC CJ students that competed in various Ohio SkillsUSA contests yesterday!!! Contests participated in included: Criminal Justice, Crime Scene Investigation, Quiz Bowl, Opening and Closing Team, Job Skill Demo and Job Interview. All of these kids deserve a huge round of applause!!

Hats off to ECC CJ senior, Laura Stephenson for finishing FIRST place in the Ohio SkillsUSA Criminal Justice contest. Laura competing against 16 other students from around the state and this is a monster achievement. Mr. Graham and I could not be more proud of her!!

Excellent presentation by Columbus Police Officer, Tom Burton to the ECC CJ jr. class. Officer Burton has been with CPD for 30 plus years, 25 of those with their CSI unit. In that time frame he has investigated literally thousands of crimes in Columbus, Ohio. Every time he comes thru the door he addresses the students in a very candid and professional manner.

Great presentation yesterday by Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Therapy K-9 unit, Lt. Derrico, Sgt. Ratcliff, and Deputy Metz to the ECC CJ jr. class. This is a super innovative way to do community policing.

ASP baton training for the ECC CJ senior class. These 12 seniors got certified with the ASP baton yesterday thanks to Athens Co Sheriffs Office, Capt. Aaron Maynard!

ECC CJ graduate class of 2021, Bryce Martin is a Pickaway Co. Sheriff’s Deputy and was awarded a ribbon today for saving an inmate’s life in Dec. 2021. Deputy Martin was presented the ribbon and Certificate of Merit by Pickaway Co. Sheriff Hafey, Chief Deputy Brown and Lt. Lane. Very proud of this young man.

Great morning yesterday in the ECC CJ jr. lab as the juniors celebrated Valentines Day just like when they were small children. Last Friday they adorned shoe boxes from home with colored paper, stickers and festive markers. On Monday they gave out valentine cards to one another, passed out roses and ate way too much candy.
