Mercer County Early Intervention Classrooms are ready for a brand new school year! 🍎✨🖍️
Connecting with our community is at the heart of what we do, and we loved welcoming families into our classrooms to meet the team, explore, and kick off the 2026–2027 school year with plenty of information and fun.

A massive thank you to our incredible staff: their creativity went above and beyond to make children and families feel right at home. We can’t wait for a fantastic year ahead together!

On August 13th our MIU IV Act 89 Behavior Coaches, Jake Graham and Amanda Hoban, presented to a group of teachers from St. Anthony School Programs. Professional Development surrounding the area of behavior was provided.
The training worked through teaching skills to students who struggle with tasks and how to encourage those who are unmotivated. Opportunities to participate in activities were provided to help teachers relate to the struggles some students encounter.
From our team, we wish these teachers a wonderful start to another school year!

Over 35 speech-language therapists came together for a full day of professional development—focused on the areas they identified as most important to their practice through a survey. What an incredible day of learning and collaboration!
The professional development sessions included:

🔹 Managing Workloads in Early Intervention (Preschool) and School-Age Educational Environments
🔹 Emergent Communication: Practical Strategies for Developing Early Language, Social, and Communication Skills, including AAC
🔹 Childhood Apraxia of Speech
🔹 Using Artificial Intelligence in Speech-Language Documentation

Jennifer Geibel, West PaTTAN Consultant, presented the majority of the sessions, while Amy Foor and John Rose, Central PaTTAN Consultants, led the session on Emergent Communication.

The learning continued throughout the day as therapists had the opportunity to explore Assistive Technology available through the PaTTAN Lending Library and the MIU IV Early Intervention Assistive Technology Lending Library. They also participated in a virtual presentation from AbleNet, providing even more opportunities to learn about tools and resources that can support students and clients.

And the best part? Therapists earned ASHA CEUs for their participation! 🎓

We are grateful for the dedication of these professionals and their commitment to continuing to grow their knowledge and strengthen the services they provide to children and families. What a wonderful day filled with professional learning, collaboration, and new ideas!

Kimberly Paglia, TSVI/COMS served as a Program Lead for the 2026 NOAH Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
This is a bi-annual conference for individuals with albinism and their families. Kimberly planned and lead the conference programming for over one hundred 7th-12th grade students and volunteer staff, many of whom have visual impairments. Activities emphasized developing independence, life skills, and social interaction including sessions on self-advocacy in the classroom, O&M for public bus travel, vision board planning for self-determination, and food preparation and healthy choices. In addition, goalball and blind soccer workshops were held at Ohio State School for the Blind, led by paralympians Donte Mickens and Mindi Cook, and the Men's National Blind Soccer Team coach, Katie Smith. Students enjoyed learning and making new connections during these sessions and on outings to Columbus Area attractions including the Center Of Science and Industry (COSI) and Other World, an immersive, hands-on art environment.
Way to go Kimberly! MIU IV is proud of your passion and commitment to the field of vision.
