We are excited to share that we met our schoolwide attendance goal of 95% for the month of May and have continued to see strong attendance in June! Thank you to our students and families for making attendance a priority.

Be sure to check out Principal Sawyer's Promise to Dance Video—a challenge she happily completed after our students helped us reach our goal! 💃🎉

As we head into the final days of school, remember that learning is still happening every day. Let's finish the year strong!

Last night at the Board of Education meeting, we had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate some truly invaluable members of the Charles Barnum Discovery Magnet School community.

Today we held our very first “Rock the Test” Parade at Charles Barnum Discovery Magnet School and our students and staff absolutely showed up! 🎸⭐

This special event was a fun way for our entire school community to celebrate and pump up our 3rd–5th graders as they head into state testing next week. Hallways were filled with cheering, music, school spirit, and so much encouragement from our younger students and staff.

At CB, we know that confidence, positivity, and community support matter just as much as preparation. We are so proud of the hard work our students have put in all year long, and today was the perfect reminder that we are all cheering them on every step of the way.

Good luck to our 3rd–5th graders next week… you are ready to ROCK the test! 🐝🎤📚

💛 Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, CB! 💛

This week, we celebrate the incredible educators and staff who make Charles Barnum such a special place. Every single day, they go above and beyond to support our students—academically, socially, and emotionally. From the classroom to the front office, from specialists to support staff, it truly takes a village… and ours is something special.

Their dedication, care, and commitment does not go unnoticed. We thank them for the countless ways they show up for our students and each other—we are so lucky to have this community. 🐝

And a very special congratulations to Ms. Patty Wicklund, our Teacher of the Year! 🎉
Ms. Wicklund is such a positive force at CB—you’ll almost always find her with a smile, bringing energy, kindness, and her very best to her kindergarten students every single day. We are so proud to celebrate you!

So proud of our incredible girls who participated in the Girls on the Run 5K this past Saturday! 🏃‍♀️💗 You showed determination, strength, and true teamwork—what an amazing accomplishment!

A huge thank you to Ms. Nowak, Ms. Farquhar, and Ms. Harren for their dedication and coaching over the past couple of months. Your support made this experience so special for our students! 💛🐝

We are so grateful to all of the families who came out to celebrate our T2 Discovery Expo! It was incredible to see our students proudly showcase the projects they’ve been working on in their Discovery Clusters—what an amazing display of creativity, collaboration, and learning!

A special thank you to Ms. Beaulieu for coordinating such a meaningful event, to our parent volunteers for helping with set up and break down, and to the Navy Submarine Force Museum for providing a hands-on activity where students explored military communication through signal flags—such a unique and engaging experience!

Be sure to save the date for our T3 Discovery Expo on June 18th—we can’t wait to celebrate even more student learning together!

At Charles Barnum Discovery Magnet School, we will be celebrating Purple Up Day on Friday, April 10th by wearing purple to show our support for military-connected students and families. Purple represents all branches of the military combined—Army green, Navy blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue.
