We have successfully wrapped up our ninth and final week of Summer Camp at Project Oceanology! During this past week, campers had the opportunity to spend time on our Enviro-Lab II Research Vessel 🐟, collect sea creatures 🦀, learn about squids 🦑, construct and operate Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and much more. A heartfelt 🎉 THANK YOU 🎉 goes out to our dedicated staff, interns, and campers for creating unforgettable experiences while exploring the wonders of marine science this summer.

🎉 It’s National Non-Profit Day, a day that is dedicated to recognizing and supporting the positive impact that non-profits have on their local communities. 🎉

For more than 50 years, Project Oceanology has connected people of all ages to Long Island Sound through hands-on marine science education and exploration. 🦞

Every donation helps get students on the water 🌊 , equip laboratories 🔬, provide camp scholarships ☀️, and inspire the next generation of ocean stewards 🐟.

Last year alone, more than 25,000 students, campers, educators, and community members participated in Project Oceanology programs. Your support and generosity makes
those experiences possible.

And that’s a wrap on our eighth week of Summer Camp at Project Oceanology! Our summer campers enjoyed many adventures, including: exploring local salt marshes and rocky intertidal zones 🦀, exploring the Long Island Sound aboard our Enviro-Lab II Research Vessel 🦑, using oceanographic equipment 🔬, engaging with marine life 🦞, and much more 🦈. Each day was filled with new experiences and friendships. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff, interns, and campers for making this week truly unforgettable.

Are you interested in volunteering to help safeguard the Long Island Sound? This September, join Save the Sound for the Connecticut Cleanup 2026, where you can participate in cleanups along the Long Island Sound shoreline and various inland waterways!

Here are a few cleanups scheduled in Southeastern Connecticut:

🐟 Waterford Town Beach, Waterford on Saturday, September 5th
🦀 Rocky Neck State Park, Niantic on Saturday, September 19th
🦞 Bluff Point State Park, Groton on Sunday, September 20th

Save the Sound leads environmental action in the Long Island Sound region. Our cleanup volunteers have picked up over half a million pieces of trash from Connecticut’s beaches, parks, and rivers. Join this effort and stop pollution in its tracks.

As the seventh week of Summer Camp at Project Oceanology concludes, campers enjoyed adventures like exploring salt marshes and rocky intertidal zones 🦀, cruising Long Island Sound aboard our research vessel and skiffs, using oceanographic equipment 🔬, building SeaPerch ROVs, measuring water quality 💦, engaging with marine life 🦞, and much more 🐟. Each day fostered new experiences and friendships. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff, interns, and campers for making this week truly unforgettable!

🎉 Today marks National Lighthouse Day 🎉, a tribute to these remarkable structures that have steered sailors safely for centuries. Lighthouses represent hope and resilience, standing as stunning beacons along our coastlines and reminding us of the everlasting strength of light during challenging times. ⚓️

At Project Oceanology, we are grateful to enjoy the stunning views of four magnificent lighthouses from our location: Avery Point Lighthouse, Ledge Light, New London Harbor Light, and Race Rock Light. These iconic landmarks provide a picturesque backdrop for learning and research while we’re out on the water, especially during our Summer Camp this summer. 🌊☀️🌊

🦈🎨 As Shark Week comes to an end, our campers are excited to receive a Project Oceanology Summer Camp t-shirt each week. This year's theme highlights the dogfish shark (Mustelus canis). These t-shirts serve not only as mementos but also as a canvas for campers to showcase their creativity, enhance their connection to the ocean, learn more about the dogfish shark, and carry these memorable experiences long after the camp ends. We sincerely thank Just Mystic for their continued partnership with Project Oceanology in providing our campers with this wonderful keepsake! 🦈🎨
