The University of Connecticut (UConn) seeks applicants for 3 positions at the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation (CIRCA). CIRCA is a multi‐disciplinary center that coordinates applied research and engagement programs to develop and advance practical solutions to problems caused by the changing climate.

Research Associate 1- Physical Oceanography and Coastal Engineering

The appointee will work in the research team supervised by the Associate Director of Research, on projects that include the prediction of flooding in coastal areas, wave runup and coastal erosion, sea level change, and coastal subsidence, and the effectiveness of living shorelines or other adaptation options. The RA will participate in the development, testing, and application of numerical models, and the co-design, ex*****on, and data analysis of observation programs to evaluate models than the effectiveness of interventions. Communication of results to both the science community, and the public will be required.

Research Assistant III – Hydrologic & Hydraulic Engineer/Scientist

The appointee will work in the research team supervised by the Associate Director of Research and lead applied hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for riverine and urban watersheds. Primary duties include developing, testing, and applying numerical models of rainfall–runoff and open-channel hydraulics in complex urban and rural settings to quantify flood depths, velocities, and risk; evaluating culvert/bridge performance and conveyance improvements; and translating results into clear products for engineers, municipal partners, and the public.

Oceanographic Research Assistant I

The successful candidate will help plan, deploy, recover, maintain, and calibrate a wide range of coastal ocean observing systems (e.g., moored instruments, buoys, bottom frames, water-level and wave sensors) and support ship and small-boat operations in Long Island Sound and adjacent waters.

The role combines hands-on deck work, basic electronics and mechanical troubleshooting, documentation, and safe operations in all seasons. Several daytrips per week and work in challenging weather and sea conditions are required.
