Yesterday, our MOEP Instructors gathered for a full day of training on the East Branch of the Penobscot River- reconnecting, swapping stories from past seasons, and getting ready for what’s shaping up to be our biggest season yet. Over the next 18 days, we’ll work with 1,214 students across Northern Maine to create inclusive, hands-on learning experiences that tie academic standards to real-world exploration rooted in ecology. We’re ready to teach, learn, and grow together, on the water and beyond!

Our Spring Paddling Program at Penobscot River Trails has officially kicked off for the season! We had a perfect day on the East Branch of the Penobscot River with Dedham 3rd & 4th grade. This group paddled over three miles, showed off their amazing paddling skills, and even pieced together a mock overnight river trip and what important items you should bring. Thanks for coming kayaking with us! We’ll see you all back in the Fall for some mountain biking. 🌊

It’s been an amazing first week of our Spring Paddling Season! 🛶 Today, Millinocket 7th grade paddled over 3.5 miles on the East Branch of the Penobscot River with our awesome Guide Staff! Pictured here is our famous “floatilla” that is formed when we instruct a “raft up” of all the kayaks. When formed, students hold onto each others boats nice and tight to learn the practice of standing up in your boat.

Thanks for an awesome day Millinocket 7th grade!

Todays biking adventure was with Medway Fifth Grade! We had an exceptional day with warm weather, and eager students ready to learn our trail system and ride our mountain bikes! One consistent comment we heard from students today was how beautiful the trees were along the trails. We’re very lucky to ride our bikes during peak fall foliage in the Katahdin Region.

Today we kicked off our Biking Program with Schenck High School! This is our first biking season to happen since 2019 due to the pandemic. We were so excited to get back out on the trails with the students, that we ended up biking all 16 miles of our trail system! Excellent job to everyone who came and got outside with us!!
