If you ask 10 coaches what makes a powerful session, you’ll get 10 different answers. Some will say it’s about great questions. Others will say it’s about deep listening. A few might even say it’s about holding space.

And they’re all right, but also missing the point.

Because a real coaching session isn’t about what you do. It’s about how you think while you do it.

Let’s be honest for a moment:

Many newly certified coaches start their sessions trying to prove they can coach. They overprepare. They cling to frameworks. They panic in silence.

But real coaching, the kind clients pay for, looks different.

It’s fluid. It’s calm. It’s anchored in presence, not performance.
A professional session has structure without script, confidence without control, and trust without needing to fix.
That’s why it feels different, to both coach and client.

I cannot count the time I've been defensive to feedback in the past. And I am still on some occasions. The moment I've started to take into account these feedbacks, I've changed my life completely. And the improvements are accrual even when it seems you're not making much progress.

Now, I also cannot count the times I’ve been giving feedback lately and how little it really lands with the people around me. It has also to do with the generalised fatigue we are seeing. But there’s more to that. Where I come from there was little knowledge about growth mindset. Not to mention practice :) So there was all about an instant result. It was rarely about the process of improvement of that result.

@ ICF - ROMANIA Conference.

Having quality standards for is important. It's a practice that is still fairly young and the more people enter this the more is needed to adhere to a frame of competencies, code of ethics and more.

But maybe even more important is to have a comunity and a non-competing space to share ressources. Congratulations to all volunteers that have been putting this together.

I look around me and everybody is becoming a . And as the number of coaches, coaching schools and dedicated programs are rising so it’s the cynical and judgemental narrative of a lot of people against them.

So I started asking myself:
Why is this a bad thing?
Why is this so worrying?
Who exactly is this trend against?
In what way is this harmful? And what may be the solutions?

And I realised that the answer is not in not doing it. Or abolish . But in making it better, in professionalizing it. And that most people judging this, as I was doing at first, have no clue on what it is about.

I didn’t hear people saying - Everybody is becoming an IT engineer now! Who will build our bridges?Well, maybe I did a little 🙂 But not at all as emotional as I hear it about coaching and psychology.
