350 of you are in!

That's THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY Omaha families where the scraps at the bottom of the sink stopped being garbage. Peels, coffee grounds, the sad half of an onion. All of it going back into soil instead of a landfill. In typical OMAHA fashion, you just... did it.

They're all using our Curbside Compost Club service that gives you a cart and picks up your yard and food waste from the curb year-round.

Curbside Compost Club has expanded up to 144th in West Omaha!

Unlimited yard and food waste pickup is available from your curb, year-round.

A common piece of feedback we hear: "Our household doesn't produce enough compost to participate in your program."

We completely understand! But we want you to see the BIG picture. We are the first program of its kind in the nation. We are working to close the circular food economy gap by partnering with local farmers to get YOUR residential compost directly onto our local fields. This helps regenerate our land, mitigates the need for synthetic fertilizers, and in turn, protects our water levels.

So YES, even if you think you don't produce enough—we need EVERYONE to participate, because we need every single scrap of food we can get to make a massive impact.

That's James, and he left us a wonderful five-star review on Google for our residential curbside composting service. 🤩

He lays out how easy it is: "We simply bag our compost and when it’s full, toss it in the bin. Done. It sits for the week in the hot Nebraska sun and never have issues with smell or pests."

The guy in charge of Douglas County's landfill told Omaha to send your food scraps to us instead of him.

That's Kent Holm, Director of Douglas County Environmental Services. His whole job is keeping an eye on our community's landfill. He'd rather your banana peels didn't end up in it.

Councilmembers Pete Festersen and Danny Begley said the same thing, standing in the same spot, the day the first Curbside Compost Club carts rolled out.

267 Omaha households are in. We need 1,600 by New Year's Eve to break a record for the fastest-growing residential composting program in the country outside a pandemic year.

First step is to check your address. If we're already on your street, you could get a cart next week. If we're not there yet, your address tells us which neighborhood gets a truck next.

Omaha, we've got a shot at something no U.S. city has pulled off outside a pandemic year: the fastest-growing residential curbside composting program in the country.

Not a coastal city with a composting mandate. Instead, a wonderful Midwest city opting in voluntarily.

254 households are doing it now. To make it official, we need 1,600 by New Year's Eve.

Is this a crazy audacious goal? Yep.
Have we been told it won't happen? Yep.
Do we think Omaha can prove them wrong?! Also, yep.

One of our Clubbers told us she signed up and 2 other homes on her block followed. That's how it spreads.

So here's your part: Check your address at the link below. If we're on your street, you're one form away from getting a cart delivered next week. If we're not there yet, every address checked tells us which neighborhood to bring a truck to next.

Curious what curbside composting actually looks like once it's in your home? One of our Clubbers sent us a peek at her setup, and we had to share it.

"We love the curbside so much, even though we really only have about one (two at most) 5-gallon Lowe's buckets at the end of the week. I was terrible at dropping off big buckets of compost (using our Drop-off subscription), so having this luxury is amazing, especially during the summer. And there are three of us on our block who are signed up, so it makes me so happy to see the three little bins out every Monday night."

1,600 Omaha households composting by December 31. Some people “advised” us that it’s not possible. We're going for it anyway.

Here's the math: 238 of you are already using our city’s newest curbside composting service. That leaves 1,362 spots to fill in five months. Hit it, and Omaha has the fastest-growing residential composting program in the country outside a pandemic year. Miss it, and we're still a city that keeps a whole lot of food scraps and yard waste out of the landfill. We like our odds either way, but we'd rather make history.
