Our Gifted & Talented students worked with Ms. Curry, Floyd County GATEs Coordinator, this week to explore real-world applications of experimental design, gravity, and mass! Through hands-on learning and scientific exploration, our Mustangs had the opportunity to put their critical thinking skills to the test and see science in action.

🚒🔥 Fire Safety Week was a BLAST in Mrs. Mosley’s Related Arts Classes! 🔥🚒

Department for visiting our Mustangs today and providing an amazing hands-on fire safety demonstration! Throughout the week, our students became little fire safety engineers by designing new and improved smoke detectors, creating family fire escape plans, collecting data on smoke detectors, and even designing their very own fire department badges!

A special THANK YOU to Mud Creek Fire Department for stopping by and spending time with our students! Learning is so much more meaningful when our students can connect classroom lessons to real-life heroes!

We are so excited to welcome everyone back to our school this Friday, October 9th for our next Family Lunch Friday event! 💛

In order to continue hosting this event and make it a success for everyone, we want to share a few reminders —

💥 It is important for all students to remain at school following lunch. Signing out early negatively impacts our overall school attendance goal and, above all else, prevents student learning to continue.

💥 We ask that no outside food be brought into the building.

💥 While you are welcome to join your student for lunch during this time, adult meals will be not be available for purchase.

💥 Please arrive early enough to sign in and be ready to join your student at their scheduled time.

We can’t wait to see you! 🙌🏼

October is Bullying Prevention Month! As we promote prevention, it is also important to understand behaviors so we can prevent them.

Is it rude, mean, or bullying?

Those words can get used interchangeably, but they do not all mean the same thing. Teaching kids the difference helps them understand what happened, put language to it, and know what kind of support they may need next.

Rude behavior may be thoughtless or hurtful in the moment. Mean behavior is intended to hurt. Bullying involves repeated behavior and a power imbalance.

October is Bullying Prevention Month, which makes this a great time to have these conversations before situations escalate. The goal is never to minimize a child’s feelings. Something can be deeply hurtful without meeting the definition of bullying, and every situation still deserves support, guidance, and follow up.

The more accurately we can name what is happening, the better we can help our kids navigate it.

Save this guide, share it with another parent or educator, and talk through it with your kids. What do you think is the hardest distinction for students to understand?
