Do you know a child who loves art and animals and playing in the forest? We have a last minute opening in our summer camp the week of July 29! The website says there's 1 space but if you have siblings you'd like to register, send a message and we can probably squeeze them in. https://www.cedardellforestfarm.com/summer-camp

Winter has been a little rough around here but there's some exiting news! We need it after the wind, ice, illness, fallen trees, broken well pipes, and days of no electricity we've had this month. This trio didn't come out of their little house for a couple days because their little hooves were like ice skates on our iced over hill. Don't feel too sorry for them, though. They've been eating their way through January and their wool is just about as long and thick as it can possible be and they're eager to show it off - to you! We're bringing last year's popular Wild Wool Family Workshops! Visit our sheep and learn to wash, card, and spin their wool. 4 dates are available and you can learn more on the website

This is Serena. She decided to protest walking on a halter and lead by laying down in a mud puddle on her way to get sheared. She's a little suspicious when anything happens outside of her normal routine of eat, lay in the sun chewing her cud (or hide under cover if it's raining), headbutt Hazel, repeat. 😂 We are not too happy about having all that mud to wash out of her fleece but it's just the way it goes sometimes. We were at the mercy of the shearer's schedule and are grateful he fit our 4 animals in, but having shearing day coincide with an "atmospheric river" passing overhead was not an ideal scenario. Still better than the time he came at 8am, exactly 24 hours earlier than scheduled, while we were all still in our pajamas. Sheep shearing is always an adventure!
If you're curious about how we deal with mud and hay and other dirt in their wool, sign up for one of our family wool workshops and help clean, card, and spin it!

This is Moody in the front. She looks like a clone of her mama, Serena, standing in the back, but she acts a lot more like Hazel, her bonus mom, standing next to her. Moody even has Hazel's signature look - vegetation sticking out of her mouth. 🤣
If you'd like to come visit them and learn all about carding and spinning their wool check out the family-friendly workshops we have scheduled this spring! These woollies really love visitors.

Exciting news! We're opening up the farm and studio for springtime family workshops and a few weeks of summer camps for elementary aged kids! Visit the sheep, explore in the forest, create nature-based art, learn about natural dyes and enjoy all that our farm and forest has to offer. I sent out some info in my newsletter yesterday and registration opens for family programs and summer camp this Friday (Feb. 10). If you didn't get the newsletter you can view it here: https://preview.mailerlite.com/i5d3s4m2c5 and sign up via the website if you want to get a notification on Friday when registration is open. We can't wait to have visitors again!

Every piece of lichen is so beautiful! I can't walk more than a few feet before stopping to admire some fallen on the ground. I think I need a new sketchbook dedicated to drawings of lichen. This could be my first subject.
