Gorilla Gathering message for the week:
Welcome back! I am always excited to start a new school year! I can't wait to see all of the kids and coworkers again. Every first day of school holds tons of possibilities and potential and I'm excited to get started!
Every first and last Gorilla Gathering of the year, we talk about Legacy. I always ask specifically the seniors, "How do you want people to remember you?" Legacy is what you leave behind. It's the possessions or property passes down to another generation.
But it's also more than that isn't it? Isn't it also leaving behind the way we made people feel when we were around?
Dara Horn says, "Every person has a legacy. You may not know what your impact is, and it may not be something that you can write on your tombstone, but every person has an impact on this world."
Whether we want to, or not, every one of us will leave a legacy of one form or another. Yes, there may be money or property, or some prized possession. But there will also be the way we were able to make people feel. People will remember if we were always willing to help, or if we were a good listener, or if we made them feel special.
But they will also remember if we made them feel worthless, or if we were rude or mean, or if we never had time for them.
I would encourage all of us to be very intentional about trying to leave a positive legacy. One of kindness, generosity, and joy!
We are ALL going to leave a legacy! It might as well be a good one! One that makes people smile when they think about YOU!
Challenge for the week: Leave a legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy!
Every day is a great day to be a Gorilla!
Have a great week and an awesome school year!
