Take a look at what our Pre-K classroom was set up for this week’s Muddy Monday! 👀
At The Learning Zone, we believe some of the best learning happens when children can touch it, explore it, create with it, and—yes—even get a little messy!
Muddy Monday is one of our special experience days designed to give our children opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration. But this isn't just about making a mess!
When children are mixing, scooping, painting, creating and experimenting, they are also developing:
🧠 Problem-solving skills — exploring what happens when they mix, move and manipulate materials
✋ Fine-motor skills — scooping, stirring, squeezing, painting and using small tools
👀 Sensory awareness — experiencing different textures, colors and materials
🎨 Creativity & self-expression — making choices and creating something of their own
🗣️ Language skills — talking about what they are doing, seeing and discovering
🤝 Social skills — sharing materials, working alongside friends and learning together
📚 School readiness — building the curiosity, confidence and hands-on skills that help prepare children for Kindergarten
At The Learning Zone at Southland, we don't believe learning has to mean sitting at a desk with a worksheet. ❤️
We believe children learn best when they are engaged, curious, active and having FUN!
So yes... sometimes our classrooms get messy.
Sometimes there are paint-covered tables, muddy hands and very colorful trays.
And sometimes, that's exactly what learning looks like. 🥰
