🚗 BACK TO SCHOOL = MORE TRAFFIC, MORE STUDENTS, MORE REASONS TO SLOW DOWN

Students are back, and that means our school zones are busy with drivers, pedestrians, buses, and students arriving and leaving school.

A reminder from the Clark-Pleasant Police Department: Getting to school a few seconds faster is never worth putting someone’s safety at risk.

📵 PUT THE PHONE DOWN
Indiana Code IC 9-21-8-59 prohibits drivers from holding or using a telecommunications device while operating a moving motor vehicle, except for permitted hands-free/voice-operated use or calling 911 for a bona fide emergency.

🚨 SLOW DOWN IN SCHOOL ZONES
Under IC 9-21-5-6, properly established school-zone speed limits may be reduced to no less than 20 MPH when the statutory conditions are met, including proper signage and the presence of children. Exceeding a properly established school-zone speed limit is a Class B infraction.

👀 WATCH FOR STUDENTS
• Slow down and follow the posted speed limit.
• Keep your eyes on the road.
• Put your phone away before you move.
• Watch for students crossing streets and walking near roadways.
• Give school buses, crossing guards, and pedestrians the space they need.
• Leave a few extra minutes—there's no need to rush.

Reminder: Tomorrow is Pajama Day! 😴💤
Roll out of bed and head right over—it’s time to get comfy! Wear your favorite (school-appropriate) pajamas, cozy socks, or slipper shoes tomorrow.

Remember:
💤 Pajamas must follow standard dress code rules.

👟 Please wear regular shoes for safety (or bring sneakers if slippers are worn indoors).
We can't wait to see everyone in their cozy gear tomorrow morning! 🌙✨

🌙 Roll out of bed and into school! 💤

Don't forget—Monday, August 10th is our very first PTO PJ Day of the school year at Grassy Creek Elementary!

For just $1 per student, your child can wear their comfy pajamas to school and help support PTO programs for our students.

Quick Reminders for PJ Day:

Participation Fee: $1 per student.
Dress Code: Pajamas must be school-appropriate.
Footwear: Regular school-appropriate shoes only (please, no slippers for safety).

Mark your calendars—PJ Days happen on the second Monday of each month (with an exception for October).

School starts today, which means more students, parents, and buses will be out and about in our neighborhoods. Please take extra care during your morning and afternoon commutes:
Watch for walking students: Be on the lookout for kids walking, riding bikes, or waiting near bus stops, especially in the early morning light.

Slow down in school zones: Extra caution in neighborhood streets and school zones goes a long way.
Stop for school buses: Remember to stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended.
Give yourself extra time: Expect a bit of extra traffic during drop-off and pick-up hours.
