Congrats to all the Krav Warriors who Ranked Up!
And a special welcome to our newest Krav Warrior!
The science behind some of the techniques and skills we use in Krav Maga. Even the Judo and other skills shown here apply to Krav Maga, we use the same principles and take advantage of the same body mechanics and physics to give the advantage back to you, the defender.
Do you know how your "Fight or Flight" Response really works?
Adrenalization: The effects of adrenaline and increased Heart Rate on motor skills and mental/emotional state.
Attackers have the advantage... they are already in the optimal zone for Heart Rate, 115-145 BPM. Victims go from well below, where reflexes are slow, to well above where motor skills degrade rapidly - in just a second or two. Fortunately the well trained person can get off a conditioned and effective counter/pre-emptive strike in that time... breaking the attacker's plan and causing a spike in adrenaline and Heart Rate for them.
Yes, having well trained and conditioned responses to common attacks can make even a surprise attack survivable by allowing you to level the playing field.
Glitches are those hesitations as we prepare to do the dangerous or uncomfortable thing.
Self-Defense is, by nature, dangerous and uncomfortable. To be successful you must be able to act without hesitation - Glitches can get you killed.
This is why we practice, why we drill each technique and scenario until they are automatic reflex - to Defeat the Glitch.
Everyone has Glitches. What are yours?

What do these things mean to your right to "Self-Defense without Prosecution"?
"What many others want to dismiss as a coincident or a gut feeling is in fact a cognitive process, faster than we recognize and far different from the familiar step-by-step thinking we rely on so willingly."
-Gavin DeBecker, The Gift of Fear
"Gut Feeling", "Spidey Sense", call it what you want, it is your intuition. The root word of intution, 𝘵𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘦, means "to guard, to protect". It is the sum of your experiences and knowledge combined with all the little signs and signals that your eyes perceive and you mind processes at a sub-conscious level. This is the root of all acts of self-preservation.
For this system to work to its fullest we must train ourselves both mentally and physically to take advantage of that "gut feeling".
"Most self-defense training, and especially martial arts 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 for self-defense, suffers from the same problem. Most of what is taught is not 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨, but incomplete."
- Rory Miller, Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected
Italics are Sgt. Miller's, Bold are mine.
Sgt. Miller goes on to explain that there are seven key elements of real violence that are quite often not addressed in traditional martial arts training. Even many traditional martial arts that have been "adapted" for self-defense miss these critical points.
* Legal and Ethical implications
* The dynamics of violence
* Avoidance
* Counter-Ambush
* Breaking the Freeze
* How "fights" actually happen
* The Aftermath
