Life Coaching is about supporting your kids in living their best life. A life coach helps kids develop the skills, confidence and an ability to thrive in life.

When kids experience setbacks and disappointments in their lives, most kids don’t have the skills to handle them as a result they often get down on themselves or give up.

Another challenge for kids is that they often feel like a victim in their lives – their parents tell them what to do, their teachers tell them what to do and even their coaches tell them what to do….they are surrounded by adults telling them what to do.

Coaching helps kids to be more empowered in their own lives so that can handle those ups and downs more effectively. Exploring self-responsibility which helps them to see that they have choices and can actually exert more control over their lives than they may have first imagined.

Good friends share mutual interests

Something most beautiful about friendship is the ability to walk alongside another human being who shares one's heart and passion for a certain subject or activity.

This might be art or cooking or church or sport or ballet.

Encourage your child to make friends in their field of interest and even facilitate these friendships.

For example, organizing for a group of their peers to go watch a game together or see a play together.

Once your child has a list of options, tell them to identify the potential pros and cons of each one. Writing down the pros and cons will help them see which option could be the best choice.

Talk about how emotions can play a big role in decisions. Fear may prevent them from trying something new while excitement may cause them to underestimate risk.

Writing down the pros and cons of several options can help teens tackle a problem with logic, rather than basing their decision on emotion alone.

Ask your child to identify which choice seems like the best one. Offer input and guidance as necessary, but try to encourage your child to make the decision on their own.

Make sure your child knows that there isn't always a bad choice. Choosing between two good colleges will have pros and cons but both options may be good ones. So, while it may be stressful to choose, it could be a good problem to have.

🤔 Counseling vs Life Coaching

It is important to understand that there is a big difference between counseling and life coaching when it comes to getting help for your child.

Very often when parents are struggling with their child’s poor behavior, then you could call on a counselor or therapist. But working with a teen life coach is much different.

The simplest way to understand the difference is in this way: A counselor focuses on issues dealing with the past while a life coach focuses on the future. One is reactive while the other is proactive.

Sadly, some parents only seek out help when something is wrong with their child and this is where therapy or counseling can come into play.

But when it comes to life coaching, this approach is more about helping your teenager to learn life skills so that when they turn 18, they are better equipped to handle the many obstacles and challenges they will be facing.

Ironically, when you present it to a child in this way, they are more open to working with the professional because they are not viewed as something being wrong with them.

ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ'ꜱ ᴛɪᴘ ➡️ Help them prioritize tasks

Assist them in planning the activities and creating their calendars based on the requirements. You can always help them when they’re stuck. Suggest them to plan their activities by analyzing their school schedule to prioritize school and personal life.

Few tasks require immediate action, such as doing homework or preparing for tests, while others can be done later. Let your child differentiate between both. You can help them do it by using creative material as markers.

Talk to your child about being appreciative of everything and everyone. They can keep their opinions to themselves. You must also tell them to not use foul language in front of adults.

There are possibilities that the child might learn bad words in their school due to certain students but you must tell them in clear words that it’s not acceptable at home and certainly not in front of the adults.
