What is Hyperfixation?

For some autistic individuals, hyperfixation can mean becoming deeply absorbed in a specific topic, activity, or interest. This intense focus may make it difficult to shift attention to everyday responsibilities, routines, or other tasks.

It’s important to understand that hyperfixation is different from a special interest. While special interests can be enriching and long-lasting, hyperfixation may sometimes interfere with daily life when it becomes hard to disengage.
